I know this is a very basis one - but I am not sure I understand it. There are so many posts with scores for Eg score 720 Q42 V39 or score 690 Q40 V38. Now what does Q# and V# mean?? These defi are not the % of correct answers or even total correct answers. Can someone help me understand.

Q# and V# are your scores in the Quantative and Verbal Section of the GMAT. They depend on the no of questions you answer correct from each difficulty pool (i.e. 500 -600 , 600-700 or 700+ level of questions).
Though Nobody exactly knows how it works.
I would suggest you to not waste your time understanding the mysterious GMAT scoring algorithim.
