5 evenly spaced integers in a set:- All the 5 values are symmetrical about the median.

So, you may say the five integers:- x-4,x-2,x, x+2,x+4

Question stem:- Sum of five integers:- 4x=?

St1:-The median of the set of numbers is 0

Or, x=0
So, 4x=0
Hence sufficient.
St2:-
The range of the numbers in the set is 4.
Range=Maximum value-Minimum value
However, we don't have any info on the set of values.
So, we can't determine the required sum.Insufficient.

Why should it not be E?

[Option A]
[-4,-2,0,2,4]
[-2,0,0,10,16] -> Why is this not an evenly spaced set?

By comparing the above two, in the first set, the elements are uniformly evenly spaced.
Whereas the second set is evenly spaced too.
Between the second and third element in the second set, it is zero, which is even right?

[Option B]
[-4,-2,0,8,8]
[4,4,4,4,8]

Hence E. Please clarify.

Hi.

Evenly spaced set:- A set of numbers in which each number is a set distance, or increment, from the next.(It is not necessary that the "set distance" has to be even. It may be an odd distance or an even distance). And the members of the evenly spaced set are not necessarily to be even integer.It may contain odd members or even members.)

For example, on a number line : -3,-1,1,3 is an evenly spaced set with an increment of 2.
: 1,4,7,10 is an evenly spaced set with an increment of 3.

In your cited example:-
{-2,0,0,10,16} ; This is not an evenly spaced set. Distance between -2 and 0 is 2 unit and the distance between all other consecutive integers is not 2 unit.
However, {-2,0,2,4,6} is an evenly spaced set.

It helps. At first my calculation was in line with your comments. Suddenly, out of nowhere, my mind had this disoriented feel. Thanks for clarification.
