What is the sum of the unique prime factors of 126?

A. 9
B. 12
C. 15
D. 18
E. 24

126 = 2 x 63 = 2 x 7 x 3^2

Adding the three unique prime factors, we see that the sum is 2 + 7 + 3 = 12.

Answer: B

Approach and Working:
• We can write 126 in terms of its prime factors as 2∗3^2∗7

o The prime factors of 126 are 2, 3, and 7
• Hence, the sum of the prime factors = (2 + 3 + 7) = 12

Hence, the correct answer is option B.
