Re: What is the value of the integer x? (1) x^2 = 81. (2) x is a square [#permalink]
What is the value of the integer x?

(1) x^2 = 81.
X can be 9 or -9. We get 2 different solutions. Hence Not sufficient.

(2) x is a square of a prime number.
X can be any number that's a square of a prime number. Not sufficient

combining (1) + (2)
From 1 we know that x is either +9 or -9.
From 2, we know that x is a square of a prime number.

The square of prime number cannot be negative, so X=9

option 1 and 2 together are sufficient
