When did the absolute value of -1 = -1 ?
Absolute value is always +ve

{x} = x - [x] = fractional part of x
|x| = absolute value of x

Well, this got me totally confused. shubhangi, can you confirm what you meant by [x]? Ever since "[]" was used on this board, it always stood for abs. value. Besides, GMAT never really tested you on the "integral" or "fractional" part of any number

I beleive the answer should be A

1. x^2 = 2x which means x = 2 sufficient
2. x^2 = x X could be = or 1. Insufficient

How can we assume [x] to be an integral part of x. It is not explicitly stated in the question
