Any question on percentages asks us to find one of the variables given the other 2 variables.

Just remember that normally, the number which indicates the Total is followed by an  'of'  for e.g., 50%  of  100, what %  of  x etc.

The question asks, what % of 30 is 12?

We have to find the %, where the total is 30 and the portion is 12

Therefore  \frac{Percentage}{100} \space * \space 30 = 12

% =  \frac{12 \space * \space 100}{30} = 40 %
