I would concur with the suggestions made above by whiplash and kissthegmat. You should work on GMAT starting as soon as possible. TOEFL should be easy.

That's what I thought as well, thanks for your input.

Any comments on how whether I should pursue the GMAT already in mid-December or wait until February (which would include nearly two month of less than optimal prep in terms of time spent)? Or is this just a personal preference/question how I consider my ability to score?

I would suggest you to go for it in December. three months should be enough considering you are still in college and will have no issues getting back to books.
Why dont you take a gmatprep exam to see where you stand. Maybe that will help you plan out your study strategy effectively.

TheMB take the diagnostic test and then decide accordingly to your score. Download the gmatprep software from www.mba.com and take one of the CAT or you can take any of the free CAT from other sources in case you want to save official CATs for the later stage of preparation. Check out this link all-gmat-cat-practice-tests-links-prices-reviews-77460.html

The diagnostic test will also help you to decide whether you need to concentrate on Quant or Verbal section.

Good luck and keep all of us update about your progress on GMAT!

Re: What route to take? [#permalink]
After now skimming through Kaplan Premier and refreshing my math with the GMAt Club Workbook, I finally took the diagnostic test and scored 640 with Q44 and V34. Not too shabby, but also improvable, especially on the V side.

I have now ordered the MGMAT eight book set and the three official guides, will start with some math to be perfectly sure that I was not only lucky, and after that get deeper into Verbal, especially getting some strategies down.

Will keep you posted on my progress.
