It doesn't matter. You can use either 2003 or 2007 version.

I personally couldn't use Office 2007 because I need the menus.
I downgraded back to 2003 and it's fine.

The main difference between the Pro and non-pro is the MS Access.
Few schools require usage/knowledge of Database building and I even managed to stay employed without having Access installed on my computer for the past 2 years.

P.S. You can also download the Office 2010 right now for free though you will have to pay for it once it is official in a few months.

Finally, I can also confirm that many schools will make MS Office available at a very low price or gratis.

A banker using Office menus? :stupid

That's five-six minutes of your day you'll never get back.

I make up for those lost minutes with my Excel VBA programming skills…

Even top bschool can not teach how to write state of the art algorithms….

HKUST can  - I took a class on VBA programming (ended up learning quite a bit but was way beyond my interest/comfort/sanity level)
