Hello GMATClub. I am three weeks into my GMAT journey, beginning with the Quant section. I have the 6th Edition Manhattan GMAT Guides and am currently on Book 4: Geometry. Currently, I am reading each book cover to cover, completing the in-book problem sets, and then also completing the Easy and Moderate Quizzes in OG2016. I plan on completing the Hard Quizzes after I finish reviewing Book 5: Number Properties.
I took a diagnostic test over a year ago before I was serious about studying and scored a 640 (Q38 V38). If I want to score 740+ (humor me for a second), when do I know to move past Quant and begin preparing for Verbal? Is it possible to take the Quant portion of a CAT only? If so, which CATs do you recommend I burn for this purpose?

Hi SlikRick,
You might want to 'mix up' your studies a bit and do some Quant and Verbal each week (as opposed to working through the "all of one, then all of the other" plan that you're on). From what you've stated, you haven't taken a practice CAT recently, so you should plan to take a FULL CAT (with the Essay and IR sections) sometime soon. Until we have that score, we really don't know what areas you need to focus on. Once you have that score, you should post back here and we can talk through the rest of your study plan and any adjustments that you should make.

Thank you EmpowerGMAT. I think I will at least finish reading each guide cover to cover and then attempt a full-length CAT. I don't know how I feel about taking a CAT exam when I haven't been fully exposed to GMAT content. Do you have any suggestions as to which company I should use for the CAT?
