When retake a wrong question [#permalink]

New post 21 Nov 2017, 11:10
Hi Guys,

This is my first question and I think it's quite fair introducing myself.
I'm no native english speaker (probably no english speaker/writer at all) and as many of you I'm struggling with the GMAT.
I've been working for about four years in the medical devices sector (degrees in electronic engineering first and bio-engineering then) and I want now try to step forward with an MBA.

I've been reading this forum a bit and I always see recommendations about retaking wrong question after a while.
My question is when do you retake a question you got wrong at the first attempt? After one day, two days, one week?

Thank you for any advice!

Ciao

Hi Flang23,

It sounds like you're just starting out. Is that true? Have you done any studying so far?

If you're just beginning, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can download 2 for free from www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a bit of practice first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the general content and question types first, then that's fine - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. A FULL CAT takes about 4 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.

I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) What is your goal score?
2) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School?

"Review" is an important part of the GMAT training process, so you should absolutely expect to review concepts, prior practice questions, etc. throughout your studies. Certain types of review should be done in the short term (for example, if you get a question wrong because of a silly/little mistake, then you should redo the question step-by-step). Other types of review should be done later on (for example, if you have not learned all the Geometry rules yet, you shouldn't focus on learning any individual rules until you're working through a broader set of practice Geometry concepts/prompts).

Hi,

Thank you for your answers!

I'm not a fresh starter. I've been studying for 2 months now but I probably stated with the wrong approach and without the right method (I started immediately with questions thinking that the theory in the OG was enough..obviously not true). I started all over again using the MGMAT. From the diagnostic test I improved my score of 100. I would like to take a first real GMAT test, without expecting big things but just to get confidence, within one month. My dream goal is 750+ but I would be happy if I get around 700 since I well know my limits as a no-native english speaker.

I'm planning to apply next year but everything depends on the GMAT.

Thank you for your advice!

MGMAT is absolutely gold and it is everything you need for a 700 score to break the 720/730 you must be capable of focusing and avoiding distraction mistakes. From my experience since I started my retake prep after a 710, breaking a 730 is really hard

Hi Flang23,

Before you spend money taking the Official GMAT, it would help to know how 'close' you are to your Score Goal.

1) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
2) Did you take the FULL CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)?
3) When you say you want to apply "next year", do you mean the upcoming Round 2/3 or next Fall (Round 1)?
