Hi mojorising800,

Thanks for your inputs. Although of course, it makes sense to be on the safe side and target 2nd-3rd tier schools, I'm really hopeful to get into the top ones. I don't want to sound a bit too ambitious, but I'll be investing a great deal of money, and I wanna make sure I get my ROI that's why I'm only looking at the top schools. Hopefully my hard work will pay off..

As for CMU, althought they're at the top in terms of the tech sector, I'm concerned that it makes more sense to go there if you have an engineering background. I'm working for an IT firm but I'm doing product/brand management for a top US software brand.

I'm also looking at management consulting if ever after graduation, so a school who is strong at both industries would definitely be the perfect choice for me.
Ditto. An engineering bg will definitely give an upper hand to a student at CMU.With an engg degree,I am hoping i can do that.Well as far as the school choices go, to each his own.

I remember seeing a stat that for consulting/tech on the west coast (for sexy companies like facebook, google, apple), that Stanford and Kellogg are also top programs.

Would you consider a non-top school in the right locations?
I've heard that some Washington/Bay Area programs also have good tech placements (though you'd likely concede any chance of an elite MC career).

Although at this point, I'm pretty much happy with the IT industry, I don't want to discount the possibility that I'll try other industries as well and mgt consulting is one area that I'm looking at. I really have no idea at this point what is the scope of work in MC companies. Perhaps you can share if you do know anything about it or if you have a background on MC?

I've worked in Sales and Trading before under an international bank's Treasury department but I guess I just wasn't cut out to be a banker :) So definitely banking is out of the question.

Since I'm more or less decided on Insead, MIT and Haas, which one do you think is the better option between these three -

Cornell, Tepper or Anderson? or if you have other suggestions? I just need to pick two more other than the three above :)

According to placements I think

Haas is best for both ~ 40% tech + 20% mc (though not sure how much overlaps)

Ross is also rxcellent for both (with 30%mc + 20% tech by placement again not sure if there is overlap).

I'm ina similar boat to you, so I can walk you through a bit of my school selection process):
Haas - Selected using the math above.
Anderson - Anecdotally Ive seen strong placements in entertainment/tech, and traditional gaming (EA and Sony). It's also one of the great socal bschools, with some consulting placements.
Stern - Strong entertaiment tech placements. Like an east coast Anderson

Hi canadianchamp, Ross seems like a very good option and I might consider that.

About stern, it was actually one of the schools I seriously considered until my friend and former officemate (in a bank) told me to completely veer away from stern if I'm no longer doing finance. Do u think this is a sound advice?
Because if they have great placements in tech and MC as you say, then I might just go with NYU.
This actually makes the decision easier for me. Because I think Cornell for one is out of place in terms of what I want to do. I'm just looking into it because it's an Ivy and has a stronger brand reputation than Tepper I think.

Pls let me know what your thoughts are esp if you've already done an extensive research on Stern. Thanks!

To add, I also like the prospect of applying to stern bcos it's in new york. So in case, I'm going with Anderson and NYU on top of the 3 schools earlier mentioned.

Reason I identified Stern is partially due to their TANG (basically their equivalent to Haas' DMEC club) for tech/digital entertainment. I also feel there's an opportunity to get into the tech from some of the traditional entertainment companies.

On the consulting side check
https://blog.clearadmit.com/2010/09/top- ... onsulting/

In New York, Stern actually edges out Wharton and Kellogg for consulting placements. That is not the case nationwide, but Stern still places top 10 on the list.
