The range of {-36, 28} = 28 - (-36) = 64
So, the range of {-36, 28, p, q, r} must be greater than or equal to 64

So, a range of 172 (II) and a range of 89 (III) are both possible.

Answer: E

Two points
1. Range is largest -smallest and it will always be positive
2. p, q and r could be anything

So p or q or r can be infinity, thus there is no upper limit..
What is the least range - when p, q and r lie between existing values -36 and 28..
So least range =28-(-36)=64

In the given options, 62 <64, so not possible, and options II and III are possible.
