A : "it" distorts parallelism, would be rendering is not grammatically correct for this statement.
B:would create.... And render... Rendering is not correct since verb-ing is used to modify either a noun or a clause.
C :might have is grammatically incorrect
D :Correct Answer
E: would have grammatically incorrect

Official Explanation:

ANSWER: D The correct answer should provide a parallel construction to “create a nuclear winter,” since both phrases follow “nuclear warfare would”; answer D is parallel to “create a nuclear winter,” and it is the most succinct of the available choices.
