Frequently Asked Questions
What is GMAT Club?
A: GMAT Club, established in 2002 and frequented by more than 120,000 unique monthly visitors, is a massive online community working together to help business school applicants get into MBA programs. Serving as an independent ground and a rich collection of resources, such as GMAT Score Calculator, GMAT error log, GMAT timer, GMAT Diagnostic Test, and GMAT ToolKit for iPhone, GMAT Club is committed to developing new tools to help applicants get a great GMAT score and the information they need to build a strong application. GMAT Club membership is free!Q: Why is GMAT Club giving away prizes?
A: We're thankful to all the members for making GMAT Club the place it is and for their contributions - we would like to give everyone an opportunity to win some exciting prizes and reward those who participate the most. We have partnered with a number of sponsors: Kaplan, Knewton, Amerasia, Veritas Prep, and Manhattan GMAT to bring you prep classes and admissions consulting, iPads, and ultimately a business school visit of your dreams. There are also secondary prizes such as GMAT Club tests and an electronic version of the GMAT club grammar book. We want to thank everyone for making us in their MBA journey and being a part of this friendly, exciting, and VERY large club.Q: How do I register?
A: Very simple - reply to this thread by clicking "Register" or "Reply" buttons - you will automatically be entered into the drawing. You will notice a special badge next to your username to verify your registration. You will also receive an email from us within 24 hours confirming your registration.Q: When will the winners be determined?
A: Please see the schedule at the bottom of the original post for the exact schedule. The prizes will be raffled in reverse order (10, 9, 8, etc) starting on October 1st. The winner of the first prize will be determined on October 12th.Q: Does the person with the most points win the grand prize?
A: Not necessarily. The prizes will be determined by a random drawing. Imagine a hat (Ok, a very very large hat), and every member will be throwing their name into it, every time they make a post or receive Kudos. The more times your name is thrown into the hat, the more chances you will have to win one of the prizes. You will have more chances, but not a guarantee. We felt this was a more fair option to those who participate quite a bit and also those who may be short on time in September. There is a total of 375 prizes. Anyone could win one of the 374 prizes. However, the last one, a bonus iPad for ToolKit users, is available exclusively to GMAT toolkit users, requires a separate registration, and is not dependent on participation.Q: Can I win multiple prizes?
A: No. We have structured this promotion very similarly to business school application - you can't attend multiple schools and thus you can't win multiple prizes. However, you can opt not to receive a prize in order to stay in the running for other, potentially more valuable prizes. For example, if you won one of our tests (Prize #9, winners announced on October 4), you can choose to decline this prize and will continue to be considered for prizes drawn on the following day (October 5th). You will be included in the drawing the day after you have declined the prize.Q: What happens to the prizes that were declined by winners?
A: In addition to winners, on the day of the draw, we will also announce an official waitlist. Since participants have an option to decline a prize, we don't want to leave it unclaimed. Those who are on a waitlist will have an opportunity to be considered for other prizes as well, until they accept a prize or win another. Winning another prize will take them off the waitlist, unless they, in turn, decline it.Q: How do I get points/chances/ to win?
A: For every post your make, up to 10 posts per day, you will receive 1 point, which equals to 1 chance to win, so a maximum of 10 points/chances per day. Also, for every Kudos point you receive, you will get 5 points/chances. Users who have been gmat club members for longer than a year are not limited to 10 posts per day and all of their posts will count - this is a way for us to thank them for their long membership. What are Kudos?
A: See here: kudos-points-on-gmatclub-forum-79704.htmlCan I check my balance of chances to win?
A: Yes, we will post a tally on a daily basis (updated every 24 hours around Noon Pacific) here:Q: What happens if I register multiple usernames and award myself Kudos and make one-line posts?
A: You will be violating GMAT Club Rules. Kudos cheating and post padding result in a ban. We will be verifying all posts and kudos points earned on a regular basis and will do 100% verification for anyone who wins. What does the 100,000th member get?
A: Same benefits as the other 99,999 members - access to a very large support network of applicants, students, alumni, and experts.Any other questions? Post them here!
