The original posting in this thread is obviously dated (2005), and most people probably realize that Wisconsin has increased in rankings and reputation over the past few years, but I thought I would just point this out to people who may be new to researching MBA’s and stumble across this. Wisconsin was ranked 27th in the US News most recent (2010) MBA rankings. Wisconsin has changed their curriculum to offer specializations in about 8-9 fields. In many of those fields, they offer one of a kind programs that other traditional MBA’s don’t compete with if you are interested in one of those fields. Examples of this include Arts Administration, Actuarial Science, or Marketing Research.

I was admitted to several top 15 MBA programs, and choose Wisconsin over them due to Wisconsin’s offerings in my specific area of interest. My specific MBA specialization has 100% job placement (even during the recent recession) and was a no brainer even over the elite MBA programs. There is much more that can be said about Wisconsin, but I just thought this assigning of tiers is dated and I think most would agree that they belong a tier or two higher than this.

UW-Madison is a great school. It has nowhere to go but UP in the rankings.
