Forget about it:

From Stanford's web page:
Use a 12-point font, double spaced, and make sure it is easy to read.

Indicate which essay question you are answering at the top of each page.

Number all pages.

After you upload your documents to your application, preview each document to ensure that the formatting is true to the original.

Save a copy of your essays.

We talked about this a lot for Kellogg, a lot of people were getting creative to make stuff fit. Per the Adcom thread on BW, kellogg prefers a minimum of 11pt font because its easier to read.

I used 10pt arial, 1 inch margins all around. I think mine were roughly 950 words a piece.

I used 12 pt Times Roman for Stanford, 11pt for UCLA. I played with margins, but keeping them above 0.7" on all sides (Kellogg asks for 1" on the top). I also played with line spacing a little (but keeping it around 1.9 spacing) to get 400 words in page.

Had to post this....

Some fool from work is applying to UCLA and sent me an email asking if it was ok to write the essays on 8.5 by 17 inch format paper...He has a lot to say and cant seem to fit his thoughts (or ego) in normal A4 paper

What should I tell him...

I might just say yes...

now now avi, we were all clueless on this process at one point or another. You dont have to give him extremely useful advice on how to write the essays but you should at least be kind enough to tell him that would be a very very bad idea.

river,
hahaha. I know I know (or as Triumph the insult comic dog says I keed, I keed)
my co-worker gave me a lengthy speech on how he fraternized with some UCLA hotshots, wrote some wonderful essays and spent an insane amount of money on admissions consultants and other useless drivel.

Then boom, I get this email on essay lengths. Surely he must have done a wee bit of research on essay lenghts atleast

Hmmm I think his expensive admissions consultant could have been of some help.
