So I got a ding from Yale last week, without so much as an interview invite! I am really not too upset about the ding itself - I have never been to Yale and really like my other three target schools (Cornell, Duke, UNC). However, I've come to realize that if Yale can ding me, any of them could. ALL OF THEM COULD! OH MY GOD!

So now I've gone back through my research and added a new tab to my set of spreadsheets, entitled Panic Button. This tab has an additional list of schools to apply to, as back-ups. Because I was looking for schools with concentrations in sustainable enterprise, and not paying much attention to the rankings, I now have an extensive and varied group of schools to consider, ranging from H/S/W (ok, not back-ups) to places most of you have never heard of.

Anyway, here are the potential back-up schools I've identified for an additional round of applications:

McCombs (U-Texas, TransElite, too late for scholarships)
Georgetown (Near-Elite, too late for scholarships)
Case Western Reserve (Weatherhead, Near Elite Frontier, scholarships available, ranked in US News top 10 for nonprofit management)
York (Schulich, NEF, scholarships still available)

I welcome thoughts on any of these schools, my state of panic, or whatever. (See https://www.gmatclub.com/phpbb/viewtopic ... 695#277695 for my profile.)

Thanks.

First of all, quit worrying.....

I have been right before (predicting others fate) and will be right this time too. You will get in all of the three schools... but the real fun will start after that. I hope you have a way to distinguish the schools otherwise you would have a tough time choosing between them.

On the other hand... if you want to play safe, go with McCombs and Georgetown.

McCombs doesnot advertise but I heard from one alumni that social enteprenurship is big there. Georgetown on the other hand enjoys its proximity to Washington (read Publiv policy, big non-profit org etc).

My two cents.

Please, more stroking. I'm a wreck! But seriously, I totally appreciate the encouraging words. I have to admit, with tax season going at full speed (over 300 returns filed in less than three weeks!), I am not especially psyched about doing more apps. On the other hand, I have decided that I absolutely do want to get in SOMEWHERE!

Funny about your two picks, Jay -- I had settled on the other two. I figured I would probably be trading prestige for scholarships - at least that seems to be the case from what others are saying - so I was thinking I might at least apply to the two that still have scholarships available.

On a related note - are those scholarship deadlines hard and fast? So far, it seems that the schools are actually pretty forgiving about receiving additional materials (transcripts, recos, etc) after the deadline. What about scholarships?

McCombs is a miser in that front.

They have very little to offer (in terms of schols) but I have heard that they do reward good candidates by converting the out-of-state to in-state thus saving near about $10000.

Regarding my choice of schools, I think we all tend to short change ourselves. This is very natural but having watched the season so closely and knowing you (albeit very little), I think I can safely comment that you would be better off in McCombs or Georgetown.

Are you referring to FOOBAR ( F-ed over and over beyond recognition ) ? This is a term from WWII.

As in, "I FUBARed the whole thing" or "the entire thing is FUBAR?"

Well, FUBAR is both an adjective and a verb, so make your choice and go ahead. I personally prefer the verb version, i.e.: "I FUBARed the application season", 'cause it conveys the idea of you taking responsibility. On the other hand, FUBAR would be suitable to whine about the process, regardless of what you have achieved.

But I recognize the CAPS / NON CAPS construction may sound awkward.

Hope it helps. L.

aaudetat, try not to stress! If you were to apply to additional schools would it be in R3? In that case there is really no guarantee you will get in anyway as that is a "yield-mgnt." round so why whaste $$ and time on applications. I have a feeling I'll see you at Duke's admitted student weekend (when do you get the decision?)

I always thought it was FUBAR - F'ed Up Beyond All Recognition.

EconGirl2, are you also EconGirl with a slightly new name? A super hero returned from a mysterious dark period on which your upcoming prequel will be based?

Thanks for your vote of confidence on Duke. That's certainly what I am hoping for! I will actually hear from them first - March 8.

Anyway, the R issue depends on the school. TX has rolling admissions, so I would be thrown in the rolling lot, but after they cut off scholarship opportunities. (Though Jay's point above is well-taken, and I'm assuming it would apply.) For Georgetown, I would be R3 and past the scholarship rounds. Weatherhead appears to have late rounds, so I would be applying in R3, but their final, no-scholarships-available round is R4. Schulich has only 2 submission deadlines - the early one the final one. Scholarships are available for both.

Chances are good at this point that I will hem and haw about applying to additional schools until the deadlines are over. You know, not make a decision until the passage of time makes it for me. We'll see!

you are too funny! I am EconGirl just unintentionally lost my user name playing with my preferences at work.

Let me know what you end up doing about the schools and good luck!

I second that OZ! I did my taxes yesterday and will file tonight - doubt anything can help me with taxes for '06. However, I have to apply for FAFSA, wonder if there are any tips for getting the most out of there?
