COBRA only seems like a bad deal because you pay the full price of the health insurance, your employer no longer pays a portion of the premium. Employers tend to choose more expensive plans that include all sorts of bells and whistles coverages in order to compete against other potential employers.

If you're healthy, you can probably find a much cheaper alternative that would provide catastrophic coverage to hold you over until you start school and are covered by the school's health plan.

I am going to be heading to Nepal for a month, then relaxing at home for a month before school...

Figured it was my last chance to really take some serious time off and do something fun.
