D cant be as it says intensive series of experiments has investigated.
but we are talking about the scene in 20's.

I agree with B. However, I do not understand your explanation, Amardeep. There is no "has" in D.
I am actually having a hard time explaining why D is wrong. Is it because of unnecessary use of possessive nouns? Or is it the fact that experiments cannot investigate the causes? In that case, how is B different?
Can anyone explain please?
Agree wtih B. In D, 'that' modifies 'experiment' making it look like the experiment is actually doing something physically, when in fact, it's just a function.

D introduces a subtle change in meaning -
The focus is on the effects that changes in working conditions WOULD HAVE on employees and not the effect that changing working conditions would have There's a subtle difference between CHANGES IN WORKING CONDITIONS and CHANGING WORKING CONDITIONS
Not sure if I've been able to explain it properly and correctly but that's what I feel.

I think I've got what you mean... It is better to say here (1) "the effects that changes in working conditions would have" rather than (2) "changes in working conditions’ effects on", because in (1) changes would have the effects, in (2) the effects of working conditions (not changes of working conditions). So (1) must be preferable
