Consultant: Rachel Shelton

Rachel was my Essay Excellence consultant for my first ever MBA application as well as my Full School Package consultant. When I first started working with Rachel, I literally had no idea what I was doing. I didn't know anything about the world of MBA applications, I had no personal narrative formed, I didn't even know what to write in my resume.

Working with Rachel, I wrote some of the best essays of my life - essays that were both deeply true to who I am but also sharply tailored to the schools for which they were written. In the end (and because of Rachel's expert guidance), I've received full tuition merit fellowships at BOTH of my top choice schools, one of which is is a top 5 "ivy league" school.

Here are five reasons why you need Rachel as your admissions consultant:

1) She WILL bring out the best in you, and she'll do so by truly getting to know you. Not the MBA-applicant version of you, but the REAL you. I think she may know me better than my parents at this point. Rachel really takes the time to ask insightful and thought provoking questions - questions you've likely never considered before - in order to dig deep into what makes you tick. From there, she helps you craft a personal narrative that is truly compelling, unique, and organic to who you are, which makes the entire application and interviewing process exponentially easier. And the best part is, she does all of this without being prescriptive or telling you what to say or do.

In the end, all the ideas are yours, and that is crucial to sounding authentic in your applications and interviews.

2) She is an expert when it comes to the top schools. Like I said, I had no idea what I was getting into when I began the application process. Rachel will be your guru for understanding the mindset and values of the admissions committee reviewing your application. She'll make sure that your essays strike the perfect balance between showing how you are unique, and showing how you fit in at that specific school.

In short, I felt safe in her hands, and you should too.

3) She gives excellent feedback. Her feedback is truly insightful, unbiased, and CLEAR. She also gives you just enough of a push in the right direction to give you clear guidance without pushing you too hard into ideas that aren't yours. And since she knows you so darn well, she has this amazing ability to sense when you are forcing a point in your essay that isn't right for you, and can quickly help you course-correct before you have a stress melt down.

Basically, giving feedback is an art, and Rachel is Michelangelo.

4) She teaches you how to fish. That is, she doesn't just help you write specific essays or answer individual application questions - she teaches you how to think about and approach your applications as a whole. I was able to apply what she taught me for one school to all my other applications.

If you can't afford a consultant for every school, Rachel will be your Jedi Master and teach you the ways of the force.

5) She'll go above and beyond for you, even after applications are in. My work with Rachel ended months ago, and to this day she is still there for me whenever I need her, even just to help me pick out what to wear to my interviews. In fact, I recently needed to navigate a tricky correspondence with the admissions committee of one program, and Rachel gave me some great nuanced advice on how to approach the conversation. As someone else noted on this site, she really is a god-send.

All in all, worth every single penny.

P.S. It's also worth noting that Rachel is an awesome, fun, funny person who is wonderful to talk to and easy to get along with. Working with her made the grueling MBA application journey feel infinitely less painful. A huge plus in my book.

Consultant: Dia Draper

Besides my undergraduate program, my VP consultant is the single largest purchase that I have made to date. I was terrified at the thought of spending $5,000 which amounted to a little over 90% of my savings. Veritas has been my guardian angel during this process. I would have paid double had I known the lengths that she and VeritasPrep would go.

Let me reiterate this previous point by attaching a Thank You that I had written to Veritas about half way through the process: "I wanted to reiterate my thank you from earlier. My biggest fear going into this was not connecting with my consultant more deeply than a surface level; I would be yet another client among hundreds, and I'd be treated as a business transaction (understandably so).

I don't expect people to care as much as I do about this- this is much more to me than "I got into a top school!" It's the opportunity to look my mother in the eyes and tell her that everything is going to be okay, and the ability to look at myself in a mirror and whisper, "I did it."

Your passion is evident and I feel genuinely cared for. No matter the outcome of this journey, thank you."

I left this process with a much better understanding of who I am and what I want, and that is invaluable. Veritas has grown to be much more than a consultant and has inspired me to be a better person. I can not thank her enough, and I can not thank VP enough for putting us in touch and their continued support.

Consultant: Michael T.

After an initial conversation I opted for the hourly package with Michael, who was great from the start about offering me the flexibility to work on whatever elements of the application I felt needed the most attention each week, while also providing suggestions on where to focus at each stage. Michael provided a quick turnaround for any drafts I sent his way, and was always able to talk within a day of reaching out. He made it clear that he respected my time, providing detailed comments on any materials prior to our conversations to maximize my time with Veritas Prep's services. His insights have been invaluable in helping me to frame my story and leverage each piece of the application to tell a cohesive story. I would absolutely recommend Michael to anyone looking for reliable, friendly help with their MBA application process.

I worked with Emily on a 3-school package in a round w/ 7 total applications. I only had ~6 weeks from start-to-finish, so I didn't have very high expectations for the quality of app I'd be able to produce.

Emily helped me in ways I'm not sure I'd have been able to help myself. I sometimes struggle with project management, but having her to keep the train moving when I felt tired, beat, etc. was invaluable. She was able to keep things moving even while I was 9 time zones away _and_ during the holiday season.

The application felt like a marathon, not a sprint (even in so short a period), and w/o Emily I'm not sure I could've gotten into my top-choice (HSW).

I was very happy with my experience with Emily! From our first conversation, I felt that we were on the same page and she understood my work style and time constraints. We used our time to focus mainly on essay questions and she provided me with the feedback that I needed to get into my first choice school. Emily helped me to shape my story by first brainstorming essay prompts and then through very specific recommendations and constructive feedback. Her school-specific guidance was also extremely helpful in further refining my application. Emily is very professional and responsive. She helped demystify the process and the experience was exactly what I needed to get accepted. Highly recommended!!

Consultant: Neil Chong

Neil provided the guidance I needed to get into my first choice school. I was initially overwhelmed with the whole application process, I went to an undergraduate program that didn’t require an essay and my non-traditional background made it difficult for me “brand’ myself. Neil focused on my strengths and helped me put them in the best light, as well as identified areas of weakness I would need to address. Neil quickly responded to all my questions and concerns with clear direction and patience and was motivational in the interview process when I was having doubts about my abilities to impress the admissions staff. I had a strong undergrad gpa but needed to retake my gmat score to become a more competitive applicant so we structured a plan where I could apply for schools in my current GMAT range and possible increased score. I was able to increase my GMAT score significantly and was accepted to 5 of the 6 schools that I applied to, all with generous scholarships of over $50,000

I wouldn’t have been able to put forth such a compelling application without Neil and cant recommend him enough.

Consultant: Emily A

Among all the consultants, I specifically chose Emily because of her profile that matches my needs : intenational students, older applicants, finance and entrepreneurship.
I was extremely happy to work with Emily. She is a great listener, very reactive and very focused on the result we were trying to achieve.
I started the process by applying to one school and ended a applying to two schools. I was succesfully admitted to both (2 top schools). I don't think it would have not been possible without Emily's help.
I very much appreciated her honesty and candidness that fully benefited me. She is truly a great consultant, very committed and I will highly recomend her.

Dia Draper- Veritas Prep

Consultant: Dia Draper

I purchased the three school package (Wharton, HBS, CBS) from Veritas Prep. My head consultant was Dia Draper.

The process as a whole was very positive. Dia got to know me, my background, etc. She asked me to take the GMAT a second time, which I did. She helped me to work my 'ground game' with the schools, events, etc. During essay season, the school specialists helped me to understand the best way to position my story. Dia then helped with the versions. She was very responsive and turnaround times were great. Dia helped me prep for my interviews as well.

Overall, Dia was worth every penny. The school specialists were good. The Ultimate Admissions Committee turns out to actually only be one person, but it's great to have their feedback since they don't know you, your story, etc.

Consultant: Oladapo Bakare

I did a three school package with Oladapo Bakare, and I am happy to take the time to recommend both Oladapo and Veritas Prep's school packages.

Long story short - I was successful! I was admitted into two schools (Harvard and Chicago) and waitlisted at a third M7. The school package was worth it for me as I had few friends or colleagues that had been through the process. It's expensive, but I definitely would have exceeded the cost with the immense back and forth.

Pros - Very responsive, patient, and honest consultant. You want someone who will get you focused fast in this process, and Oladapo definitely helps you in that department.

Unlimited and timely responses. You'll go through dozens of drafts, and it's great to not worry about the hours. Oladapo was steady throughout the process, and he kept me calm when it came time to submit and avoid making minor adjustments.

Individual school reviewers and interview prep. Additional reviewers that work specifically with the school give you added confidence in your application. I also appreciated the Ultimate Admissions Committee Reviewer that gave you a final review prior to the deadline.

Brief Cons - Thought it would be more structured. Mainly handled in back and forth through email. I thought portal/brainstorming sheets/additional resources would be more thoroughly utilized. Recommender support - again, thought there would be more brainstorming help here.

Consultant: Read Flake

I decided in the third round to apply for business school, because Veritas was offering a deal where if you didn't get in in the third round this year you would receive the same services to apply in the first round of next year. Read was with me the whole time. He was extremely encouraging, supportive and insightful. He helped me with every step of the process. I know that if it weren't for him and the other Veritas consultants I was fortunate to work with I wouldn't have gotten in. I had looked at applying almost every year since my graduation from undergrad, and I finally pulled the trigger. And in retrospect, it was at the last minute. I didn't give myself much time at all for how much was involved in doing it right. With more time, I am sure that I would have felt even more confident and had several other offers. I balked at the price tag, but, looking back, it was the best $7,000 I have spent. I got in to a top 40 program, and my ROI will be really quick. Read is a great guy. He talked me through each step and took time several times a week to talk on the phone, whenever I asked. He emailed me back quickly, and his feedback on how to update my resume, change my essays, and coach my recommenders was again, invaluable. I overwhelmed myself once I realized how much I needed to get done in just a couple months, but Read walked me through it and calmed my fears and anxieties. When I asked for him to give me challenging deadlines to make sure I met the application date, he did it and did his part to make sure that I got timely feedback. I am sure that there are several great people in Veritas, but I was very fortunate to be set up with Read. If I were you, I would request him!
