Hi folks,
Long time lurker, first time poster. I am looking to apply to the 2018 Jan Intake and this forum has been a wonderful resource for my MBA application process. I have 2 INSEAD questions and am hoping to hear your thoughts/experience on them.
Question 1. R1 vs R2
Based on the statistics here: https://gmatclub.com/forum/calling-all-insead-mba-applicants-january-2017-intake-class-of-209251.html -> see 2nd post:
It seems that R2 and R3 have the highest probability of acceptance due to R1 having a large number of applicants.
Wondering what's the prevailing wisdom here on which Round to aim for if my application will be ready by both deadline date? (I'm male, North American, late 20's, business consulting with engineering undergrad, no time constraint on when I need to find out about acceptance)
Question 2. Interview Timing
To plan around work travel, I would like to get a better understanding of typical interview dates. From folk's experience, when do interviews typically happen after the Interview Decision Notification Date? (see below for the 2017 dates). For example for R1, if the Interview Decision Notification = Apr 21, 2017, do interviews typically happen within 2 weeks of that date?
Round 1
Deadline: March 15, 2017
Interview Decision Notification: April 21, 2017
Final Decision Notification: May 24, 2017
Round 2
Deadline: May 3, 2017
Interview Decision Notification: June 2, 2017
Final Decision Notification: July 7, 2017

Hello! I can't comment too much on the rounds as I applied in round 1. However, if you're looking to gain any scholarships, some of the deadlines are cut off after round 2. That can potentially help you to make a decision depending on whether or not you are sponsored. My gut feeling is that both rounds are equally competitive.
As for interviews, I got my pre-selection notification on the 19th and my notification of interviewers on the 21st. It was then up to me to schedule time with the interviewers in the next 3 weeks.
If you are traveling, let you AO know and they may be able to assign you to an interviewer in the location that you are traveling rather than the location that you are based. Good luck!

Thanks for the post and it is great to start planning ahead! You are always better off applying earlier rather than later, despite the numbers you saw. The reality is the slots start to fill up and while many applicants get in later, it is easier to get in earlier.
Interviews will be scheduled anywhere from a week after the notification to a few weeks, for the most part. This does vary based on the location of the interview, but I would block off June in your calendar for instance, to be safe.
