Is Yale's ranking a sign that it's arrived at prime time? Seems like the new building plus marquee faculty hires mean the school will consistently achieve top ten status within the next couple of years.

I agree east coast. I also think that the appoint of Edward Snyder (former Booth dean) coupled with the revamped curriculum has give Yale a ton of momentum which i think will solidify then as a top 10 program.

Hi All,

Everybody seems to discuss only the top 10 colleges...
I want to understand colleges in the US news 40-60 range....are they really nt upto the mark...?

A few of the colleges I have heard are regionally quite strong such as SMU Cox at Dallas... still it ranks somewhere at 57 or so...?
leaving apart the 2000-3000 seats at the top 10-20 colleges...how do the others who have taken admissions to colleges in the
30+ range...fare??
when having a chat with a few students.. i found that the quality of education in general in US schools is really good..
then why the perceptions vary so much..
is it location/opportunities/quality ??

Wud really appreciate the inputs..so that I can take a decision about taking admissions this year or the next...

Thanks

I think people discuss the top 10 schools because those are the toughest schools to get into and therefore most necessitate the existence of a message board and community to help with admissions.

I see a few people mentioning both graduation employment rates and recruiting, I think you really need to look at these offices to make the best choice for you especially if you are considering day student status, but also I think a few people who are full time day become entrepreneurs or leave their current small businesses to go to business school, and I'm not sure the school would count some of them as 'gainfully' employed, but I did not come up with the percentages or see the raw data, might be spot on who knows?

Not sure if this is of any use for people, but I created and have been maintaining a site that shows all the major rankings as well as a composite score of the 5 major rankings. Poets and Quants does something similar but I still find this more helpful. Let me know what you think.

One point of warning on relying too much on the employment stats without knowing the underlying data can be observed from some lower tier law schools in Chicago, which are now being sued for manipulating the employment stats. These schools (which I won't name here, even though it's public record, but I will say they do not include U of Chicago or Northwestern) were found out to be inflating their numbers by including people employed by the university after graduation (at less than 40 hours per week) and people who were not in law positions (not by choice). While this is law school, not B school, it shows the perils or looking too much at rankings.

Also there's a weird teenager-like neurosis around this level of admissions that undoubtedly is connected to people's overall desire to pursue prestige and money. Kinda like Ivy League admissions, only less diverse on most levels.

Anyone happen to know if the new usnews is available in book stores yet? I always prefer to leaf through the hardcopy version.

I think it officially came out yesterday or the day before BUT... if you are more of a data nerd, the online version has alot more info. Some good articles in the magazine version, but I'd rather pay the premium version online if I were throwing money their way
