37Q 36V 610 Mock

Question

Thinking about studying for the GMAT and took a free mock on the website and scored a 610 (37Q 36V). Know nothing about the gmat and now have spent the past few days researching. Have you seen success stories of taking original mock scores as low as mine to a 720? I’m buying TTP this weekend and will grind through the whole quant course over the next 4-5 months.

610 is a great score to start with. This score is just a benchmark for you to understand where you currently stand. There are people who have even score less than 600 and improved their score to 700+. So, you can definitely improve your score.

Make sure you do your prep in the right way. You can go through this   article   to understand how to strategize your prep. And regarding the resource, I suggest you to check the free trials of the courses and then choose the one which suits you. Hi Mba202232, I myself scored a 570 in my first GMAT attempt. I didn't do my prep in the right way that time. Then I understood the right approach, focused on the process and then finally improved my score to 720. So, it's not where you start but it's about how your prepare. Do not focus practice questions. Make sure you work on your weak areas. And do not rely on multiple resources. Stick to one good standard resource which can help you with concepts, methods and also helps you to work on your weak areas. A score of 610 in the very first GMAT mock test tells the entire story about how well prepared you are for the GMAT official test and how to change the gear now to meet the target score in reality. You can definitely achieve the target score of 720+.

With my GMAT tutoring, guidance, and counseling experience, we have to accept the fact with a pinch of salt that diagnostic/ mock test scores are above then what one should expect in a real test. There is often dropping in the score. Some students have even experienced a drop of 100 pointers. It is one of the realities, and your preparation should not sideline this fact.

A couple of things that can be a noticeable barrier to your scores would be some or all of the below.

• Inefficiency by using time-consuming Conventional methods to tackle DS and PS questions still.
• No expert support (maybe) who can tutor, analyze, and guide you during your learning especially on hard level questions while stably hitting middle-level questions.
• Lack of many updated questions and practice in the recent exam trend
• Not well aligned with time to solve questions.

A 610 is a solid initial CAT score (the average score on the Official GMAT hovers around 550 most years). Many GMATers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores, so if you have 4-5 months of potential study time, then that's great! However, if you're planning for 4-5 months, then there might be some inefficiencies in that plan.

Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on your timeline and your goals:

1) What study materials do you currently have access to?
2) Are you planning to take the At-home GMAT or are you planning to take your GMAT at a Test Facility?
3) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?
