Persistence pays in the end even if you don’t believe it will. For the ones who are Impatient (my breed) and can’t read the full article i am writing the summary and recommendations in the end.
First attempt:
My Story
First of all i never thought that anyone will ask me for a debrief at the end of the road when i started my preparation. Its almost been one year now and it was not an easy year for me.
I would specially like to mention that I am one of those kinds, who are average(still am) at everything. Unlike most indians who are confident about maths, i was not that good(as i commit a lot of mistakes and still not completely over this problem ).
For the ones who somehow got the notion that my english would have been at least average, let me break it out to you, i was pathetic at it. I did not even know what a verb is when i started preparing for Gmat. The only definition that i used to remember was that of a Noun. I was just decent at Reading comprehension( as a matter of fact i am still just ok types).
I had all the problems an average guy suffers in gmat- Timing, Accuracy and Concepts.
I started in September last year. I already had a Gre 313(Q160,V 153) and Toefl-102 score ( All thanks to my good ear at differentiating right and wrong english) to begin with. I got that score with little effort. So was really confident to nail the gmat beast. But got a real shocker when i wrote my first Gmat(590) in December.
Resources :
Took coaching at a well known institute in india(chandigarh) for gmat.(Did not learn anything in verbal)
Did not prepare much for RC and CR.
Was not really confident with SC so took
E-gmat course.
Completed OG 15 and VR2( just solved all the questions once) and the the institute material (Waste of time)
I improved a bit but then the performance fell again in the tests.
My scores
kaplan Cat 2: 570 (Q47,v24, IR 1)
after egmat
kaplan Cat 3: 650
kaplan Cat 4:680
Princeton Cat:580
kaplan Cat 5:570
Gmat prep 1: 580
Official Gmat: 590( Q47, V23, IR 6)
Was really dejected after the first one. I thought that may be this exam is not meant for me because i believed that i had tried everything during my first attempt.
2nd attempt:(this was to be my last attempt)
(started on 10 jan)
Story
I thought i will give just two months for the prep and will try to get it over with asap, but i had no idea how. I started with Sc from e-gmat again. It took me about 25 days to complete the whole thing along with OG and VR sc questions.
I was not that sure with CR and RC so I took E-gmat for RC and CR and got IR,
gmat club test as freebies.
Took another 45 days to complete all of that material(there went my 2 month plan down the drain)
I started solving questions.Though my accuracy improved but i was taking around 4.5 min to solve each SC and CR question ,and 12+ min to solve RC passage. I was really not very confident at that point. They say the universe always gives you what you need(not what you want).
Out of sheer luck one day while looking at a debrief by ruchi i found out about a group gmat warrior where i found kinjal(Gmatify) who had openly invited students who want help. I just jumped in to grab that opportunity. And i am happy that i did.
My transformation: Unlike all the other Online courses that are available,Gmatify gives personal attention to each student. During my sessions with gmatify i realised how much quality matters over quantity in gmat. I had all the basic knowledge from my previous study. The only thing that i required was to sharpen my tools for the fight. I started seeing all questions in new light. Getting to the right answer is just 40 % of the process of learning. Knowing why the other options are wrong helps you learn the rest of 60%. Once you realise this you start to learn and your journey to the core knowledge of gmat starts .
Kinjal’s(Gmatify) test analysis session helped a lot.

Third attempt: After the 2nd attempt I did not know what to feel. Should i be happy that i got 36 in english or should i be angry that i screwed up in maths. I called Rajat and Kinjal that day. They both congratulated me on such a tremendous improvement in english. Then kinjal motivated me to take a break and give another shot. He reasoned that 2 point improvement in maths is achievable in no time. He also told me to aim for more in verbal (At that point I thought haha, not possible).
I took some days off and went to mcleodganj.
After coming back i lost the momentum. But i was persistent to write gmat within a month so i booked my date for the end of July month.
The problem : Gmat changed my centre to Delhi due to some problem. This meant that i had to reduce a day in my prep and go through the hassles of traveling and lodging. And to make it even worse the only slot available was in the morning (i had practiced in the afternoon.) At that point i thought it's beyond my control and if some higher power wants me to go through all that trouble then no problem ,everything happens for a good.( it eventually did

Just practiced in prep exams.
Recommendations:
Official material is more than enough- You won’t even be able to complete it easily. Stop looking for material available online.A big reason is that it cannot be trusted because it may not test the same concepts as official questions do. Please don’t hesitate to buy ( or may be share it with someone if you don’t feel comfortable shelling out that amount alone. Question pack and exam pack key can be used by 3 people at a time.) the official material.
Make
Error log- I cannot stress more about it. Absolutely necessary unless you are some kind of a wiz kid who knows it all.
Practice the tests on time that you plan on giving the gmat : It's important because it depends on your eating cycle. I prefer the afternoon slot because i am done with my lunch and have enough time in the morning to prepare my mind for the test.
Food- Before the exam try to have a good meal. During it(exam) i took 2 banana(one in each break), glucose and water. A word of caution please pay attention to the total liquid intake as it can create uneasiness( will get urges to pee,

)during the end of the exam. Relieve yourself properly in every break(sounds stupid but important).
Work buddies- Surround yourself with people who are on the same goal as you are. I have never met Raj, Rajat, hema and the gmatify team but we all get along very well. They are all always ready to help.
Decide how much practice you need- Ok it all depends on you. You may just need to do some good practice question and get a good score or you may need to practice a lot from all the official material to get there( more like me). Your prep scores will tell you how much more practice you need.
Timing- Don’t stress on timing straight away. First try to get your accuracy right. when you are past that bridge only then think about timing. For improving your timing try solving a bunch of 10-20 question in time bound conditions and try to calculate average time per question. Don’t make reducing time for individual questions your aim. Reduce the average time per question to ideal. Some question take greater than ideal(difficult) ,while others take less than the ideal time. So try to reduce your average time to more near ideal. (I used to use (
https://www.gmattimer.com/) site for timing my question. Awesome for record keeping)
Art of skipping- Only skip CR questions and that too not more than 3. Don’t skip in a row. Skip strategically.
Using the material- It's not enough to just solve the question. Its important that you know why each option is wrong. Official solutions are ok but are not good enough. Use online forums(Gmatclub,Beat the gmat, Manhattan, Gmatify) as much as possible.
Don’t keep on rescheduling- Set a date and get it over with. The worse that can happen is that you will have to give the paper again.
Emotional support- Rely on the close friends who understand you.
You are allowed to be angry, you are allowed to cry, you are allowed to be sad, you are allowed to be frustrated , you are even allowed to doubt yourself occasionally but you are not allowed to Quit, unless or until you believe that you have given your all. Persistence pays in the end even if you don’t believe it will.
I would like to thank Gmatify, E-gmat, my work buddies, my family and my special friend who helped me achieve this.(I almost feel like a pageant girl while writing this)
Thanks for taking the time to read this far.
