Hi guys,

I started preparing for the GMAT only 2 weeks ago and before any preparation I got a 610, 32 verbal (66%) and 42 quant (51%). I did the Kaplan complete 2017 book and some exercices and got a 630 twice, with a couple of days in between. 33V (69%) and 44Q (58%). I'm aiming on a 670 score (it's roughly the average of the schools I want to get into in Europe) and ideally I'd be taking the test in about 2 weeks with 10 more full days of prep time. The schools are LBS, IE, Esade and ESCP.
Anyone have some advice? Focus on quant or verbal?

Thanks so much!

Hi ElliotL ,
For practise tests you should stick to GMAT Prep. Two GMAT Prep tests can be downloaded for mba.com and these tests are the most realistic representation of the actual GMAT .
Besides that there are 2 paid exam packs - Exam pack 1 and 2 . You should take at least one of the GMAT Prep tests .
- Analyze your strengths and weakness and make an error log .
- Revise the theory and revisit your error logs .

Also, check out the below link -

Hope this helps!! :)

Hi Rich,

Thanks for your help!
I also think that the timing and strategy of it all could possibly get my score up a bit more. The last time I took the test I got a little behind and started stressing out a bit which probably didn't do much good.

Thank you!

Kind regards,

Elliot

Hey Kaplan are actually supposed to be harder but it compensate with the exam conditions so you should be over by 10-20 points! TRy to do as many cats as possible

Hi ElliotL,

Test Day is a rather specific 'event' - the details are specific and they matter, so you have to train as best as you can for all of them. The more realistic you can make your CATs, the more likely the score results are to be accurate. The more you deviate, the more "inflated" your scores can become - and that's potentially what has happened here. By skipping the AWA and taking the CATs at home, you've been taking shorter, easier Exams - so it's likely that these scores are a bit 'inflated.'

GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. Assuming a similar 'swing' in how your CATs function, your 3 CAT score results show that you essentially performed the same each time (+/- a few points), with a general ability in the low-600s (although the 'inflation' that I mentioned earlier means that your ability might actually be in the high-500s). The question at this point is where these scores are in your 'range.' If these scores are at the 'low end' of your range, then you could conceivably score 670 working in the same general way that you have been. However, if these scores are at the 'high end' of your range - and your general ability level is in the high-500s - then the two weeks that you have might not be enough time for you to hone your skills and hit your goal score. From an academic standpoint, you could pick up all of the missing points that you're looking for in either the Quant, the Verbal, or a combination of the two sections, so focusing on either section for the remainder of your studies could lead to your score goal.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Welcome to GmatClub!
610 is awesome score to start with. And it has been only two weeks now. :)
Go for GMATPrep mocks as Rich said.
Also 42 in quant shows that you have good basics and just manage to avoid silly mistakes in it.
All the best for your preparation.

Another point to consider since you only started prepping recently is whether you did better on PS or DS questions. I think that since DS is unique to GMAT tests that people don't realize that it might take time to fully understand how DS questions are created. for example: one thing about DS that always confused me was yes/no answers and that no answers are sufficient. That was a it tricky so I focused on DS more than PS during practice.
