Hey Hi,
Congrats 640 is quite a improvement from your scores in the mock exams
This strategy seems to work really well for you, also I would like to inform you that Manhattan mocks are considered to be a bit on the tougher side so it might explain the higher score on the actual test.
Also can you specify the material you used for your prep and for how long have been preparing for. the GMAT

Regards

Thanks. I was not expecting a 640 but I'll take it. I'm still trying to gun for that elusive 700+.

All I have worked on is the Manhattan Prep live course. I went to every class. Started around 09/10. I put in about 2-3 hours Mon-Fri and about 3-6 hours Sat and Sun.

Hi jaswang,

First off, a 640 is a solid score and it could be enough to get you into the Schools that you listed in your prior post-thread. That having been said, there's no harm in retesting - and you have the potential to pick up points in BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. Your Official Score is remarkably similar to your CAT Score from September 30th, so it's possible that you've gotten 'stuck' at this particular 'score level.' If that's the case, then you may have developed some 'bad habits' during your studies that you will have to work to fix (and replace with new 'good habits'). The only way to properly measure whether you have fixed them or not during your studies is to take FULL-LENGTH CATs at regular intervals and under realistic conditions. By extension, your idea to NOT take any more CATs until your next Official Exam (in January) is NOT a good idea.

You might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn't provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Hi Rich!!

Thanks for keeping up with me and the encouragement. I really appreciate it!! I want to attend UCLA's FEMBA. I don't know if my credentials will qualify. I plan to obtain the official transcripts soon and I am going to put up a post for profile evaluation on GMATclub forum soon.

I have about 7 weeks to improve my score. My next official test is 01/05. My idea of not taking anymore CATS would be to replace the CATS with actual real exams. I was thinking of signing up for an official test on 12/10. This gives me about 3 weeks to study. Take the test and access my situation and then take another 3 weeks to study and take the test 01/05.

What would be your recommendation on the frequency of CATS? Some say once a week. I feel like 1 weeks is not enough to pinpoint, correct, and practice on the weak points as well as continuing to keep pace in all other areas on the GMAT. Would be curious to hear your thoughts on this.

I am definitely going to purchase the ESR. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again for everything!!!

Hi jaswang,

After taking the Official GMAT, you won't know all of the questions that you got wrong - and by extension, you won't be able to review those questions and determine WHY you got them wrong. Your tentative plan (to retake the GMAT more than once as a 'substitute' for taking CATs) is expensive and leaves you with limited information to help you improve.

As a general rule, you should take no more than 1 CAT per week (and if you want to space them out more than that - say 1 CAT every 1-2 weeks - then that's fine). If you really are stuck at this particular 'score level', then we need as much data as we can get so that you can properly train and get 'unstuck.' The data/results from practice CATs, taken in a realistic fashion and at regular intervals, is essential to properly focusing your efforts during this next phase of your studies. You might also need some new study materials.

Hi Rich,

That makes total sense. Thanks for the advice. I will purchase the ESR tonight after I get off work.
