Hi Everyone.

I attempted GMAT on 23rd and scored 650 Q48 V31. I consistently scored 710+ on every mock so I have decided to re attempt. I will probably attempt on 15th Jan(this time online)

I used Jamboree study material first time and I really need to know which study material to use to go from 650 to 700+. I am practising Verbal 700+ questions but have no idea how to go from Q48 to Q51.

I'd really appreciate if you guys could help me.

Thank you
Hello, Garima999999999. You may want to check out the resources mentioned in the GMAT Club Study Plan post under the Advanced column for a few ideas for Quant. If you have earned a 48, a 50 is easily in reach with a bit of refinement. I will say that for Verbal, you are embarking on what I would call a dangerous path, working through 700-level questions. If your scaled score is sitting at a 31, then, to be direct, you have no business picking apart such difficult material. You are not ready for it. I have coached a few people to 730 scores by advising them not to touch 700-level Verbal questions, but to make sure they had 500- and 600-level questions under control. I set benchmarks for accuracy at these levels at 90 and 80, respectively. Basically, if you can consistently hit these benchmarks for accuracy, then you will be thrown more difficult questions on the exam, and your score will reflect that. Remember, the GMAT™ is a test that punishes mistakes on easier questions more than it rewards accuracy on harder ones, so you want to do everything you can not to dig a hole that you then have to exhaust a few questions climbing out of. Many people make the mistake in their preparation of thinking that knowledge of how to approach questions trickles down from Hard to Easy, but it is really a focus on the fundamentals, or working from the ground up, that allows someone to become prepared to take on upper-level questions. (In other words, you will be ready when you are ready, not before, and there are no shortcuts.)

Good luck with your studies.

- Andrew

Hi Garima999999999,

There's enough of a disparity between your Official Score and your results from your last several CATs/mocks that 'rushing in' to retake the GMAT in approximately 2 weeks might not be the best idea. There's certainly no harm in retesting that quickly, but we should really analyze your ESR in more detail first so that we can make sure that you're focused on honing all of the necessary Quant and Verbal skills needed to hit a 700+. Yesterday, I sent you a PM with some notes and additional questions - and you can feel free to email me your ESR directly if you like (at [email protected]).

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi Garima999999999,

Regarding resources, in addition to seeking advice in this thread, take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant and verbal courses, and also read through some GMAT success stories to see what materials have worked well for other test-takers.

You also may find it helpful to read this article about how to score a 700+ on the GMAT.

Good luck!

You can easily make the jump to 700+ by mid Jan if you do 1 thing: Focus on your Test Taking Skills. Go beyond simply practicing concepts with practice problems but also focus on how you approach each type of Q and V question as well as the test overall.

We primarily (90%) coach retakes and we've found that a strong majority of our clients with 650+ scores have more Test Taking Skills shortfalls than conceptual knowledge issues. Here's only problem: know what your Test Taking Skill gaps are. The only way to really now is tracking your actual approach in a practice test. We do exactly that in our FREE 90 minute Diagnostic Testing Simulation with a live GMAT Performance Coach. After that free session, you'll know you're exact gaps and what you need to do to fix them (your approach to Q and V questions (4 core steps in each), timing management and overall approach to tackling the GMAT).
