Hi,
My GMAT Prep started in Jan'23. I started from a 640 in my first ever attempt of the classic edition, progressed to a 690 and then a 720. In desperation for a better score, I also made a huge mistake by attempting the Focus edition without much prep and got handed a 615, all of this happened in 2023. Eventually, I gave up on my MBA dreams in 2023 as I thought my scores weren't sufficient for an Indian Engineer (although non-IT).
I was denied with an interview at Tuck for the 2026 applications, which I had applied for in the Guaranteed Interview round.
After a disappointing 2023, it took me a few months to find some strength to start preparing for the GMAT again to apply for schools this year. Started studying around July this year, and gave the exam again on 14th September. After almost a 2-year toil with GMAT, after 5 attempts, and after a lot of difficult days, the best score I could land myself with turned out to be a 675 (Q88 V83 DI80). This score is a little better than my 720 attempt, going by the percentiles.
However, I find it very hard to accept this score and move on to the applications! Simply because I somehow believe that I can do better, and this belief is not letting me move on to the application work for R2. I am also beginning to think that I am too fixated on acing the GMAT and hence hampering my applications this year too!
I am writing this post to seek some advice on how I should proceed!

Hi Auror_07,
I believe you when you say you can do better. This was your first serious FE attempt, and you may very well end up getting a higher score if you retake.
However, since you already have a very good score, it's probably time to move on from (prioritising) the GMAT. Maybe start with some of the ground work for your applications? You can take the GMAT again if you want, but the main thing here, as I see it, is to make sure that you can make your R2 deadlines.

So, the good news is that you are in a pretty nice spot!
That said, you do need to continue to find your holes and fix those to help improve your score. Thus, engaging in topical practice is a great way to do so. Let's use quant as an example.
For example, let’s say you want to practice Number Properties. You can do so by answering 50 or more questions just from Number Properties: LCM, GCF, units digit patterns, divisibility, remainders, etc.
After each problem set, it's crucial to delve into the questions you answered incorrectly. For instance, if you stumbled on a remainder question, take a moment to reflect. Was it a careless error? Did you fail to apply the remainder formula correctly? Was there a concept in the question that eluded you? This analysis is key to your learning process.
By carefully analyzing your mistakes, you will be able to fix your weaknesses efficiently and, in turn, improve your GRE quant skills. Number Properties is just one example; follow this process for all quant and verbal topics.
