Hi everyone,
I thought I’d share my GMAT prep experience for anyone just getting started or doubting their plan.
I studied for under three months, about 3–4 hours a day, and scored 685, with a 98th percentile in Data Insights on my first try (Full score in the attached photo). I didn’t use the official GMAT guide at all.
Target Test Prep (TTP) was the only resource I followed.
I had little to none quantitative academic background. Verbal was my weakest spot (and still managed a solid 83), and DI was totally new.
What I found really valuable:
- Each topic is explained fully, not superficially (every trick that you will need on exam day is covered and tested).
- Theory is immediately reinforced with exercises.
- The custom test builder lets you target weak spots fast.
- The error log makes it easy to review and fix mistakes.
But cherry on the pie was Data Insights for me
Since DI is a new section, most platforms (and test takers) barely cover it. TTP proposed exercises that were super similar to the actual GMAT format.
Even though the question bank isn’t huge yet (understandable as it is new section), it was enough to prepare properly. My 98th percentile score speaks for itself.
No Official Guide NeededI assumed I’d eventually need the GMAT book, but TTP covered everything in enough depth that I never bought it.
It isn’t cheap, but I see it this way: paying more once is better than paying for retakes because you weren’t fully ready. It is less stressful as well.
I’d absolutely recommend it to everyone starting their GMAT journey.
Good luck for your exam!
