The good news is that you scored really well on quant, right? That said, I understand that you are not satisfied with your verbal score, so the question we need to ask is why you scored so high on your practice exams but lower on the real GMAT.

Assuming that you took your official practice exams under realistic testing conditions, the results show that, on a good day, you are capable of scoring higher than V35. Thus, it’s quite possible that nerves, stress, tiredness, or a combination of all three negatively affected your test-day performance. However, it’s also possible that you have some lingering weaknesses that were exposed on test day. Although I’m unsure of how you prepared, it’s possible that, in your preparation, particularly in verbal, you did not really learn to do what you have to do in order to score high on the actual GMAT. Rather, you picked up on some patterns that were effective in getting you relatively high scores on practice tests. So, for you to hit your score goal, your preparation, particularly for verbal, probably needs to be more complete, meaning that you have to go through the various types of GMAT questions carefully to find your exact weaknesses, fill gaps in your knowledge, and strengthen your skills.

For verbal specifically, you have to become more skilled at clearly defining the differences between trap choices and correct answers. Otherwise, you will get stuck guessing between two choices or be surprised to find that you incorrectly answered questions that you thought you answered correctly. Becoming more skilled in this way takes carefully analyzing all of the answer choices to lots of verbal questions to develop an eye for the logical differences between the choices. In other words, you have to go beyond answering practice questions and reading explanations to doing deep analysis of questions to learn to see everything that is going on in them.

In order to follow the path described above, you may need some new quant and verbal materials, so take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant and verbal courses.

Hi Deeptanshu

First off, a 700/Q49 is an outstanding Score, so you can comfortably apply to any Business Schools that interest you. As such, a retest might not be necessary. Depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

Before we get to the data in your ESR, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long have you studied? How many hours did you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
4) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

I value your opinion and I visited the article on what went wrong on test day on your website, Though As far SC goes I believe I have a decent knowledge and Given that I solved some SC questions on exam in like 30s (2-3) And yet I have a massive average shows that I got stuck in two questions for waayy too long and Similarly on quant 3min. per question for the entire 2nd quater on quant is'nt cool But what happened on test day was that I got way too many Interest and Percentage questions which involved alot of calculation and Couldnt hack my way through, I wanted a Q51 or a 50 atleast :( I always had 48+ on Gmatclub and 50 or 51 at prep test. My main issue is How do i realize alot of time has past because as stupid as it sounds once i start solving a CR or Quant I dont really realize how long it is until i have solved although this problem in SC can be fixed. Any other suggestions on how to continue from here Since Im all warmed up already I plan to give my gmat in 3-4 weeks and Sadly I have exhausted my 6 GMATPrep except the resets and OG 2020 2019 Verbal Review 2019.
Also Happy Thanksgiving :)

Thank you for your reply.Sadly after taking to adcom experts they recommended me a 740 atleast, I am a self study student who did not take any course whatsoever, My CR and SC were pretty good before 2 days on GMAT, I gave diagnostic in front of the OG section(which was the only material left at that time) and got only 1 wrong in CR and 2 in SC. Things I used during my study
1) OG 2020 and 2019
2) Verbal Review 2019
3) Ron Purewal and Gmat Ninja
4) Books:MGMAT SC , PowerScore CR
These above pretty much made me very confident in SC and RC
For RC I believed there wasnt alot that could be done but i stopped taking notes as thought they were a waste of time but now i feel i will start taking notes they help alot on hard passages probably one of which i completely botched imo on the real thing

For Quant, I am an Engineer and already had a Q49 in the first mock i gave before prepration
Gave MGMAT books a glimpse couldnt find anything spectacular in them except the matrix method
Went Over to GMATClub's book which I believe is awesome

Also Looks like I got 5 questions wrong in Quant which would have been an a Q50 but I probably missed a easy yet calculation based question in time trouble
Also Happy Thanksgiving

I gave my GMAT yesterday for some reason I had poorly performed as my performance on MGMAT and GMAT Prep was always above 740 :( Kindly help me and suggest me to reach my target score. I know for a fact my performance on primary purpose question is very poor but I was hoping a Q50/51 and V42 and assuming to get wrong the primary purpose question anyway. Kindly help me.
Exam day experience: I got the first RC in first 9 questions and then in second quater I had two RCs back to back which probably account for my 43% wrong (1 in each RC) and I probably botched it during this half when i used my time on a SC where 2 option both seemed grammatically and meaning wise okay so i took way to much time splitting hairs between them and went with the cleaner one. After that it went all downhill I was so low on time . P.S after first 9 questions I had 49 min. on the clock determining I was actually okay on time here, after finishing 18th question I had around 30m and after 3rd quater I had 13min. where I should have 16min. I panicked after 20th question seeing i was way below on time and tried to make up for it and my esr screams this fact how i mismanaged and wasted the last quater of my quetions

Hey DanTe02,

I would love to give you a few tips on improving your score but I think a one-on-one discussion would be much better than doing it here. Because, a one-on-one discussion will help me understand your concerns and challenges and will help me guide you in a better way. You can use the below link to get in touch with me.

Hey dude. I am sending my ESR to you via PM. We have the same quant score. It looks like you're great at sentence correction and just need to work on the other question types. My advice is to do the question types you struggle with ad nauseum. I used Kaplan's Self-Paced online program--they have an adaptive question bank.

Hey DanTe02,

Go through Veritas Mocks (Tough) or Experts Global (Medium).
Both are reasonably priced. I feel Veritas Mocks has more learning but Experts Global is good for look and feel.
I would still recommend Veritas as I was weak in CR and RC and I could see the questions draw a parallel to existing LSAT or GMAT questions, only wordings are different but are well explained on this forum.

Experts Global is good for quant per se, but GMAT Club tests are next level.

Good luck!
Cheers.

Hey kagrawal16,

700 is a great score. But do not worry. You can definitely take it higher. You can reach out to me if you need any help with the ESR analysis. All the best :)
