75% of a group of students` grades are greater than 70, and 60% of students` grades are less than 85, what percent of students` scores are between 70 and 85?

A. 15%
B. 20%
C. 25%
D. 35%
E. 45%

Let's first say there are 100 scores.

Given: 75% of the scores were greater than 70.
So, 75 scores are greater than 70.

Given: 60% of the scores were less than 85
This means 40% of the scores were greater than or equal to 85.
So, 40 scores are greater than or equal to 85.

Of the 75 scores that are greater than 70, we know that 40 of them are greater than or equal to 85.
This means the remaining 35 scores must be less than 85.

In other words, 35 scores (i.e., 35%) will be greater than 70 but less than 85.

Answer: D

Total Students in a class = 100
75% have greater than 70 and 60% have less than 85
Students having marks greater than 70= 75
Students having marks less than 70 = 100-75=25
Students having marks lesser than 85 = 60
Student having marks lesser than 85 can be split into 2 factions i.e. students having marks between 70 t0 85 and students having marks less than 70
60=x+25
x=35
percentage - 35%

Assuming there are 100 students.
Using the number line method we get

____25________70______75___

____60___________85___40___

There are 75 students who have scored greater than 70, and 40 students who have scored greater than 85
Therefore the no. of students who scored between 70 and 85 = 75 - 40 = 35

% of students = 35/100 = 35%

Correct answer option D
