Initial attendance (I) = 1,000,000

First increase: F1 = I * 1.20
F1 = 1,000,000 * 1.20
F1 = 1,200,000
Second increase: F2 = F1 * 1.20

F2 = 1,200,000 * 1.20

F2 = 1,440,000

Attendance after the second increase is 1,440,000.

­Given,
1. A baseball team increased its home attendance 20 percent in each of two successive years.
2. home attendance was 1 million the year before the first increase

Asked,
what was the attendance the year of the second increase?

Each year the attendance increased by 20% => 1mil + 20% of 1 mil
This happens twice,
So 1 mil(1.2)(1.2)
=> 1mil * 1.44
=> 1,440,000

The answer is C
