1. For each of the following statements, select Yes if, based on the information provided, the statement can be shown to be true. Otherwise, select No.

Every movie shown at the film festival this year was approved by at least 2 committees......YES. All the movies shown in the festival fall under atleast two categories, and to be shown at the festival, the movie has to get the approval of all the categories, in which it falls.

At least 7 committee members voted to show Movie C at the film festival this year......NO. Movie C falls under the Feature length & Live-action categories, and the committee approval votes for the respective categories are 3 & 4. So, Movie C got atleast 7 votes and maximum 9 votes.

Movie D received more votes than did Movie B to be shown at the film festival this year......YES.
Movie D : Falls under 3 categories - Short, Live Action, & Documentary. Minimum Votes needed to be featured = 1+4+1 (respectively) = 6
Movie B : Falls under 2 categories - Short & Animated. Minimum Votes needed to be featured = 1+3(respectively) = 4. Even if the movie gets Maximum votes the total will be 2+3=5, which is still lower than the minimum votes of Movie D.

2. Which of the following films shown at the festival had the greatest range among its three scores?

can you explain why Q1 'Movie C got atleast 7 votes and maximum 9 votes.' doesn't mean a Yes?

AS = Audience Score
JS = Jury Score
CS = Critic Score

A. Movie A - Range => AS-CS = 4.1-3.8 = 0.3
B. Movie B - Range => AS-JS = 5.0-3.8 = 1.2
C. Movie C - Range => CS-JS = 4.3-4.0 = 0.3
D. Movie D - Range => JS-AS = 4.3-3.8 = 0.5
E. Movie E - Range => AS-JS = 5.0-3.7 = 1.3

3. For each of the following movies, select Yes if it can be inferred that the movie wins an Audience Pick award at the film festival. Otherwise, select No.

Movie B.....YES. Since both JS & CS are less than 4, and AS is greater than 4, the movie gets an Audience Pick Award

Movie C.....NO. Although AS is 4.1, we would consider this score only if the movie fails to win the JS or CS. The respective scores for JS & CS are 4.0 & 4.3. So, the movie will receive the Seal of Approval (because of its CS's score).

Movie E.....NO. Although AS is 5.0, we would consider this score only if the movie fails to win the JS or CS. The respective scores for JS & CS are 3.7 & 4.2. So, the movie will receive the Seal of Approval (because of its CS's score).

Official Explanation

2. Which of the following films shown at the festival had the greatest range among its three scores?

Difficulty Level: 500

Explanation

Before you calculate the range of scores for each of these movies, consider the data set. None of the movies received a score in any category of less than 3.7, and, other than two movies (B and E), none received a score greater than 4.5. So, every movie other than B and E has a range that is less than 1. Movies B and E each received a 5 in audience score, and the lowest score for each of those movies is less than 4; thus, the range of scores for each of these movies is greater than 1, and the movie with the greatest range must be one of these two. Since the range of scores for these two movies is calculated by subtracting their lowest score from their highest score, 5, the film with the lowest score has the greatest range. Movie E has that distinction with a 3.7 jury score, which means (E) is the correct answer.

TAKEAWAY: When a question seems to invite you to calculate a lot of values so you can compare them, look to strategically eliminate some options instead.

Answer: E

Official Explanation

3. For each of the following movies, select Yes if it can be inferred that the movie wins an Audience Pick award at the film festival. Otherwise, select No.

Difficulty Level: 550-600

Statement 1: Use the flowchart in the second tab and the movie scores in the third tab to determine what award, if any, a movie wins. According to the flowchart, the first step in deciding what award a movie receives is to check the jury score. Movie B received a 3.8, which is not high enough to get a Seal of Approval, so move on to the next step. The critics’ score was 3.9, which is also not high enough to win a Seal of Approval. The audience score, however, was 5, which is enough to earn this movie an Audience Pick. The answer is Yes.

Answer: Yes

Statement 2: Movie C received a jury score of 4, but the relevant criteria for the Seal of Approval is whether that score is greater than 4. It isn’t, so check the critic score. Movie C had a 4.3 there, which is high enough, so this movie was awarded a Seal of Approval. That means that it also can't get an Audience Pick, so the answer is No.

Answer: No

Statement 3: You may have noticed that Movie E received an audience score of 5 and been tempted to select Yes. However, it’s important to follow the flowchart process exactly: a movie is considered for an Audience Pick award only if its jury and critics’ scores don’t qualify it for a Seal of Approval. Movie E got a rating of 4.1 from the critics, so it received a Seal of Approval, making the answer No.

Answer: No

By adding the repetition of commitee aspect, it made the second part of q1 complicated for no reason :(
