A container manufactured for the transport of liquids is a right circular cylinder. If it has a diameter of 40 inches, what is its volume?

(1) The surface area of the container, excluding the top and the bottom, is $$1200\pi$$ square inches.

(2) The entire surface area of the container is $$2000\pi$$ square inches.

Volume of a right circular cylinder = π*r^2*h. We already have radius r = diameter/2 = 20 inches. We need height h to find the volume.

(1) Excluding the top and bottom bases, area (or curved surface area as its called) = 2πrh = 1200π, given. We can solve this to get h, and thus can find the volume. Sufficient.

(2) Entire surface area = Area of curved surface + Area of two circular bases = 2πrh + 2πr^2 = 2πr(h+r) = 2000π, given. We can solve this too to get h, and can thus find the volume. Sufficient.

Question: Volume of the Cylinder = ?

Volume of the Cylinder = $$π*r^2*h$$

We know, Diameter, 2r = 40

We need, Height (h) of the cylinder to answer the question.

Statement 1: Curved Surface Area = 2πrh = 1200

Since we have the radius so we can calculate the height hence

SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: Total Surface Area = 2πrh + 2πr^2 = 2000

Since we have the radius so we can calculate the height hence

SUFFICIENT
