Let the total quantity of soup be 80 liters

Each of the two bowls will have 40 liters

Manuel ate $$\frac{1}{4}*40 = 10$$ liters from one bowl and $$\frac{2}{5}*40=16$$ liters from the other

So, Manuel had a total of 26 liters out of the initial 80 liters

So, the fraction of the entire pot of soup that Manuel ate = $$\frac{26}{80} = \frac{13}{40}$$

Fraction of the entire pot of soup Manuel ate $$= \frac{1}{2}*\frac{1}{4} + \frac{1}{2}*\frac{2}{5}$$
$$=\frac{13}{40}$$
