A store sells two types of masks, A and B, and both have the same production cost of $0.2 each. On a certain day, the store sold a total of 10 masks such that the number of masks of type A was 50% more than the masks of type B. Type A masks were sold at a 20% discount on the list price, and type B masks were sold at a 30% discount on the list price. Both types of maks had the same list price. If the store made a profit of 90% on the masks sold that day, what was the total discount offered as a percentage of the total production cost of the masks sold?

Let number of mask B=n, number of mask A=n+(50n/100)=1.5n.
n+1.5n=10 or, n=4. Therefore, the number of masks B=4 and mask A=10-4=6.
Let the selling price(SP) of each mask A and B be $x.
After the discount, SP of mask A is x(1 - 20/100)=$0.8x
After the discount, SP of mask B is x(1 - 30/100)=$0.7x
So, the total SP after discount is 6*0.8x + 4*0.7x=4.8x+2.8x=$7.6x
The total cost price(CP) is 6*0.2 + 4*0.2=$2
7.6x-2 / 2 = 90/100 or, x=0.5
Without discount, the SP should be 6*0.5 + 4*0.5 = $5
The SP with discount is 7.6*0.5=$3.8
Therefore, discount 5-3.8=$1.2
1.2/2 * 100 = 60%. Option (D) is correct.
