[quote="Bunuel"]A survey of men from ages 18 to 30 revealed homosexual experiences in 30 percent of them and they ranged from an isolated incident to a permanent lifestyle.

(A) homosexual experiences in 30 percent of them and they ranged(ambiguity in reference of they)

(B) experiences in 30 percent were homosexual and ranging(wrong use of ranging, meaning not clear)

(C) the ranging of homosexual experiences in 30 percent of them to be(same as above)

(D) that 30 percent had had homosexual experiences ranging(clarity)

(E) that 30 percent of them had had experiences that were homosexual; the range was(wordy)

So choice D

+1 for D.

(A) homosexual experiences in 30 percent of them and they ranged --> "Reveal that" is the correct construct

(B) experiences in 30 percent were homosexual and ranging --> "Reveal that" is the correct construct

(C) the ranging of homosexual experiences in 30 percent of them to be --> "Reveal that" is the correct construct

(D) that 30 percent had had homosexual experiences ranging --> Correct usage of "Reveal that" and much concise

(E) that 30 percent of them had had experiences that were homosexual; the range was

Hence, D.

Hello Brother ..
I have eliminated A B and C easily . But between D and E , I thought that E is better because in D 30% is not clearly mentioning men . (I thought that 30% is just a number) . So I have chosen E . Please clarify more on this . Thank you !!

Answer to your question has already been provided in above posts.
Please go thru all the replies in thread to get clarity regarding why option D is better than option E.

hey karnaidu :-) how is your SC prep ? Not sure if you have already figured out what`s wrong with E, but here is a quck shortcut to eliminate E :)

(E) A survey of men from ages 18 to 30 revealed that 30 percent of them had had experiences that were homosexual; the range was from an isolated incident to a permanent lifestyle.

"them" can refer either to 'ages" or to "men". Quite ambiguous, isnt it ? :-)

cheers :-)

MANHATTAN REVIEW OFFICIAL EXPLANATION:

B implies all experiences in 30 percent of the men were homosexual. C implies more than 30 percent of men may have had homosexual experiences. That leaves A, D and E. D is the shortest, simplest and clearest and is therefore correct.
