Option C

Buy: \(20 kgs * 6 rs = 120 rs\)
Sell: \((20 - x)*8 rs + x*5 rs\)

As there's no profit: \(Buy = Sell\):
\((20 - x)*8 + x*5 = 120\)
\(x = \frac{40}{3}\)

Solution

Given
    • A trader buys 20 kgs of wheat at the rate of Rs. 6 per kg.
    • He sells the wheat at the rate of 8 per kg and for a regular customer his rate is Rs. 5 per kg.
    • On selling the entire 20 kgs, he realizes he has not made any profit or loss.

To find
    • How many kgs were bought by regular customers?

Approach and Working out

Let x kgs were bought by regular customers.
Hence, he sold (20-x) kgs at 8 per kg and x kg as 5 per kg.
    • He did not make any profit.
      o Hence, SP = CP
      o (20-x) * 8 + x *5 = 20*6
      o 160 – 8x +5x = 120
      o 3x = 40
      o x = 40/3

Thus, option C is the correct answer.

Correct Answer: Option C
