Solution


Given:
    • Percent of the funds, for highway maintenance, that came from different sources

To find:
    • Percent of the funds, for highway maintenance, that came from the tax on tires

Approach and Working:
    • Sum of all percentages = 100
      o Implies, 72 + x + 12 + (x + 4) = 100
      o 2x + 4 = 16
    • Thus, x = 6%

Therefore, the percent of the funds, for highway maintenance, that came from the tax on tires = 6%

Hence, the correct answer is option B.

Answer: B

Since the percents in a pie chart sum to 100, we can create the equation:

x + 12 + x + 4 + 72 = 100

2x = 12

x = 6

Answer: B
