In case anyone's wondering about the bus schedule, called Booth. They said:

Friday morning: buses leave Gleacher at 8:30, 8:45.
Friday afternoon: buses leave Harper at 5:45, 6pm
Sat morning: buses leave Gleacher at 8:30, 8:45.
Sat afternoon: buses leave Gleacher at 4:45, 5:00pm

And also the page will apparently be back up shortly.

Nolo contendere?

(Actually I was supremely lame and didn't go out much cause I spent all day studying for finals and with a 7 month preggers wife at home, she's not super keen on 'hitting up the bars' these days... You'll have to ask olive/isa/etc).

;)

Does this mean Olive and Terp26 failed to meet my expectations over the weekend?

Sigh, I had high expectations for those two....

Hey guys! Just got back from Chicago - I had a fabulous time this weekend! Terp, Soni, Isa, MK, Rhyme and I had an awesome weekend of definite drunk debauchery. In fact last night was so bad, I woke up this morning still not sober and went to the wrong airport.

I have to say, I definitely OD'd on the Booth kool aid this weekend. I am completely in love with this school. I've never been around so many intelligent, fun, interesting and yet still completely down to earth people. I really can't stop talking about how excited I am about going to Booth. My husband had a great time too! They even put us in squads where he was with 3 other male partners and he had a great time getting to know them and the students. I talked to Rose and she was incredibly nice and chatted with my husband for awhile about his job search. I can't wait to meet the other prospectives, if anyone has any questions please feel free to PM me!

And the evil olive WAS evil, I have a definite evil headache right now and suffered 300 bucks worth of evil olive-ness at the airport this morning to change my flight.

Isa, you better come.

:)

same here. I had an amazing time. To paraphrase Olive, people are really smart, engaging and down to earth. I really love it. My fiancee was very excited as well. Chicago rules. :)

Just got back from Chicago - it was a fun weekend! It was great meeting olive, terp, soni, rhyme, meddlingkid, etc as well as a couple of the "lurkers" that were at Fado's/TNDC. :)

I'll post more collected thoughts tomorrow for sure!

My wife and I just got back tonight as well. I will put together a more detailed post tomorrow regarding this weekend. Until then, I'll just say that this weekend was absolutely phenomenal. The school did a fantastic job putting together the weekend events.

Oh, and I know how you feel Olive. Due to an alcohol-induced brain fart, we barely made our flight home. :-D

I sent in my deposit today. I was fully committed to Chicago from the start, but everything I learned about Time Value of Money says to wait until the last possible day. Unfortunately, when that money is in an investment account in 2009, the discount rate is a really really big negative number. Darn.

I like to second everyone 's sentiments. Great weekend. Good meeting soni, isa olive rhyme meddling and others. Olive was definitely evil sat night at evil olive.

They really made you feel part of a world-class institution. I was very impressed with the dean's speech. The long history of great minds and innovative thinkers that graced the campus of the University of Chicago is mind-blowing. The chicago school of econ, sociology, criminology etc. The "Challenge Everything" motto I think is so important in the business world. Innovative ideas come out of challenging the status quo and Chicago has definitely made a name for itself in that regard.

Additionally, as Rhyme pointed out during our lunch, the flexible curricilum is underrated. You get to choose, what professor, what course, and what time, with very little restriction. You want that hotshot professor? You can get him. You're not stuck in a cohort having your professors or class times picked out for you. You want to have all afternoon/night classes? You want to have class 1 day or 2 days a week? You can. You are a finance major or a CPA and you don't think you want to spend a valuable course on an intro to finance class, well guess what, you dont have to. You can take a more advanced course. You are interviewing in the winter with a MC firm? Ok let me take a competitive strategy course 1st qtr to hone skills.

I sound like a marketer for Chicago but yes I drank the kool-aid (the san fran group actually made a kool-aid packet with chicago booth on the back)

Anyway I was sold on the school before, and sold even more now. Although I think the city is beautiful and seem awesome, I still don't think it comes close to NYC. Chicago pizza blows. I never knew pizza could be so bland. I haven't spent much time in Chicago, but maybe as I experience it more my mind will change. I think I will miss walking out of my apartment building with a 24hr dunkin donuts across street, 4 conv stores open within 2 blocks, 2 pizza places within 2 block of me, 6 bars a street away, 5 dry cleaners in a one block radius....ok you get the point !

Terp,

I agree with you; the Dean's speech really made a difference. There is a strong culture and sense of pride at University of Chicago that is very appealing. The ideas before people is amazing and they really live it.

As someone who stayed in NYC and Chicago, you will get used to the city. It is not NY, but it definitely has its charm. The lake makes a big difference in the summer. Though it will never match the energy level you can feel in NYC but that's unique.
