I like to second everyone 's sentiments. Great weekend. Good meeting soni, isa olive rhyme meddling and others. Olive was definitely evil sat night at evil olive.
They really made you feel part of a world-class institution. I was very impressed with the dean's speech. The long history of great minds and innovative thinkers that graced the campus of the University of Chicago is mind-blowing. The chicago school of econ, sociology, criminology etc. The "Challenge Everything" motto I think is so important in the business world. Innovative ideas come out of challenging the status quo and Chicago has definitely made a name for itself in that regard.
Additionally, as Rhyme pointed out during our lunch, the flexible curricilum is underrated. You get to choose, what professor, what course, and what time, with very little restriction. You want that hotshot professor? You can get him. You're not stuck in a cohort having your professors or class times picked out for you. You want to have all afternoon/night classes? You want to have class 1 day or 2 days a week? You can. You are a finance major or a CPA and you don't think you want to spend a valuable course on an intro to finance class, well guess what, you dont have to. You can take a more advanced course. You are interviewing in the winter with a MC firm? Ok let me take a competitive strategy course 1st qtr to hone skills.
I sound like a marketer for Chicago but yes I drank the kool-aid (the san fran group actually made a kool-aid packet with chicago booth on the back)
Anyway I was sold on the school before, and sold even more now. Although I think the city is beautiful and seem awesome, I still don't think it comes close to NYC. Chicago pizza blows. I never knew pizza could be so bland. I haven't spent much time in Chicago, but maybe as I experience it more my mind will change. I think I will miss walking out of my apartment building with a 24hr dunkin donuts across street, 4 conv stores open within 2 blocks, 2 pizza places within 2 block of me, 6 bars a street away, 5 dry cleaners in a one block radius....ok you get the point !
