Hi all. I just found out about this forum, and there is lots of good info in here. I wanted to add my hat into the DAK roll call.

Hopefully all of the various Kellogg 2011 groups will get consolidated for those that end up matriculating.

Steel,

Thanks.

Can't talk a whole lot to process so far since resume drops are just starting. The only firm to come back so far with invites is Apple, which I was fortunate enough to get an interview with so far.

Kellogg is very strong in the tech field, even this year most every tech firm is coming to campus for strategy, business development, or product management positions (with the exception of Google, which is on an MBA hiring freeze). Examples of some firms coming onto campus for positions: Microsoft, Cisco, Adobe, Dell, Symantec, Facebook, Expedia, NVIDIA, Apple, Intel, Amazon, HP, etc.

Interestingly enough, Kellogg is one of the best represented MBAs at many tech firms, especially Microsoft and Dell. Each of the firms above have had or are going to have interviews on campus, and most have already come to campus for corporate events. Many of the tech firms above took a handful of people for their internship programs. I think both Apple and Microsoft had around 5-10 Kellogg interns last year a piece (which, given that the size of most of their MBA internship programs is in the 30-50 range nationally, is pretty good).

Definitely send me questions as the process continues - should have some more info on interviewing in a couple weeks!

river, steel, mgoblue: I was wondering how do you guys write Kellogg on your resume.

For my undergrad I have written only the name of the school and not the specific college. For example, for Northwestern, my resume format would say:

Northwestern University AND NOT
McCormick School of Engineering, Northwestern University

So, I was wondering whether just writing Kellogg School of Management would be suffiecient or should I write Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University or should I just be writing Northwestern University. And if I choose the second option (Kellogg, NW), should I add my undergrad college and university for the sake of consistency (although that would make the resume cluttered).

I'm sure my resume will go through multiple revisions once I enter b-school, but I just wanted to see how it would look :-D

You guys without buddies yet, you do know if you have any questions you can pm steel (consulting/clean energy), mgoblue2 (MC), or myself (GM/big energy). If you have career specific outside of those I probably can point you in the right direction. Some former members are doing CPG and other things.

Specifics about kellogg and life in Evanston we can answer that stuff for you to.

Use us as a resource!!

I'm also involved in Tech Strategy recruiting (I'm what you call recruiting over committed).

I think I can speak on behalf of all of us on this one - can't thank you guys enough for all the time and advice that you guys give us.

They try to get people to have similar formats so recruiters can scan them easily. Education would look like this (obviously with better alignment and formatting. You put the KSOM then underneath NWU.

I have a housing question for those in Evanston. My wife and I have two dogs (1 small and 1 large) and would really like a rental house if at all possible for the convenience of a yard. Do you know the best way to look for rental homes in Evanston? The closer to campus the better of course. Also, how do you get "in the know" with homes (and their owners) where current students reside and are graduating?

Thanks!

Ahh dog life in Evanston, not exactly the easiest but its not that bad. No clue on how to find a house rental, I do know people who rent part of houses but it seems thats more the realm of undergrads renting a big house and splitting it up. I do know some 1st years who are talking about getting a place next year together. As for how people come across them. Some are found on craigslist and during DAK you should get some housing survey stuff which may be helpful. You can also post seeking a place on the messageboard and 2nd years often post stuff for their landlords as they leave.

Your housing preference is your decision, however I must say that houses generally are located further from downtown and the action/life. Though some are actually closer to campus. I would suggest being close enough to walk, just because you are in Evanston doesnt really mean you are in the part of Evanston everyone else is. At DAK they will show you guys where the buildings are and thats where most people live. I think that having a condo/apartment is a lot less of a pain than having a house...heat is included for us and in a house its often not and can drastically drive costs up. If something breaks or you have an issue the response is going to be FAR better too.

We moved from a house with a yard to a condo and initially were afraid our dog was going to hate it and we would have to send her off to my folks but in the end she adjusted well and actually seems to enjoy the hustle and bustle of downtown. We also found the closest places for her to go the bathroom and trained her that those are her "spots" which really sped the process up so to speak. She isnt a barker so we arent worried any complaints about that from neighbors but that might be a concern we know people who have recieved complaints and it puts you in a bind.

They accept the people but not the pets unfortunately. If you have a cat or dog you will have to find a different place to live. Cats and small dogs are pretty easy but finding a person who allows dogs over 50lbs can be a little bit of a challenge.

Gil, you are in Israel right. Make sure that you find any regulations with moving to the US with a pet (assuming you have one already and arent planning on getting one when you get here). I believe you need to go to the Vet and get a health certificate right before you come and you definitely need to be completely up to date on vaccines (probably rabies but I would suggest all of them just incase).

Usually matriculating students, but admitted students have been known to join and drop in the past if they don't matriculate :)
