I'm tentative for DAK right now. I would've come for sure if I were still in the US, but am in India right now. I might try to make a week long trip out of it. Let's hope something works out coz I really want to come.

river, I had a question for you or mrs. river. If I can't make it, can my girlfriend still come and attend all the JV events. We are planning on moving together where ever I go to school and even if I can't make it, I would like for her to visit and be comfortable with the school I go to so she is excited about moving. I would've asked someone from adcom, but I think you will be able to provide me the best input.

steel, mgoblue - appreciate your input on this too.

I am sure they would allow that...you can ask the adcoms and stuff. If they say no then let me know I will get you contact for the JV girls and they will make it such that your gf would at least go to the JV stuff. Mind you that JV stuff isnt as exciting as what the whole weekend will be like since its designed for you guys to do night time events together. But she easily could just tag along with the girls she meets.

I am going to do my best to make it to one of the DAKS. Is there any difference between them?

Ehi we have >6% of the MMM class of 2011 among us!

DAK:

- Gil, I am positive that you can only attend the R1 DAK, Feb 6-8. It is student run and if we were free to choose, R2 DAK would be unmanageable.

- I verly likely have a final presentation on Feb 7...I am still trying to come but it's very hard at this point, I would have to leave the day before the preez which is always hectic. More a no than a yes at this moment, though I'd like to come with the lady.

Really? Didn't know that. I guess I'll have more info once my package arrives (expected on the 11th according to UPS).

River (or other Kellogg students) - how important do you think it is for me to come and visit assuming I have made up my mind regarding Kellogg as the school of my choice? It will probably cost me around 4000 bucks to pull this thing together...

I'm going to DAK. Working w/ a friend who is a 2Y admit to arrange a hotel room together. He says there are recommended hotels, I haven't looked into that yet though.

I have to be in Detroit for work from 1/30-2/10; so won't be able to make DAK.

Do you think it's worth it to visit instead and sit in on classes/eat lunch w/ students?

thanks :)

Soni, the admitted students website recommends the Hotel Orrington, Best Western or Hilton Garden Inn, and there are special DAK rates, but at least at the Garden Inn I got a better rate using the hotel's online reservation deal so I'd suggest you try both to get the best rate.

The wife and I are attending DAK and are very excited about it.

River, does Mrs. River by chance know when the DAK JV itinerary is going to be posted? Also, is there anyway I could "arrange" for a current JV to reach out and contact my wife. I've given her the links for the facebook group and the JV website, but I know she is not one to reach out on her own. I can give you her contact info via PM.

Thanks

I am planning on being at DAK.

I have a question though: was everyone able to get into the welcome website? From talking to the Adcom (who finally called me to apologize for the 10-day delay in in letting me know I had gotten in, which I thought was nice) I was under the impression that the welcome website is up and running, and we should look there for info on DAK, etc.

I got my admit package yesterday with my login info. For my NetID activation code, it just said "Account already activated."
I tried to access the site, but it said I need an activation code. So I called the help desk, and was told the site is in fact not up and running, because they want everyone to access it at the same time, so they are waiting until everyone has their packages. The IT guy seemed very unsure of his answer, and I find this strange. Are you guys able to get onto the site? Did you have activation codes in your admit packages? If they were really not going to launch the site for a while longer, I would imagine they would have spelled that out a little better in admit calls/packages.

The welcome site is up and running, and has been for a while now. I just logged in with no problem. When I got the call from adcom they have me my NetID and an activation code, and I had to go to a separate activation site to activate my NetID and set my password. My admit package said my NetID was already activated, but the letter was dated after I had gone to the activation site and chosen a password so I didn't think anything of it. Maybe the help desk can help you retrieve the password for your NetID?

Honestly Gil, I dont think I would drop 4k to go if I had my mind made up. A lot of internationals don't go because of cost to make it for a weekend. Unless you want to turn it into a week long vacation in Chicago I wouldn't even consider it. We can pass along any info that might be useful for you and I definitely can answer housing questions for you.

They are going to be putting the JV stuff up soon. Send me a PM...also if your wife joined the facebook group, 5 of the members are current JVs and all of them are extremely nice. They signed up to help with DAK so to say they are enthusiastic about helping is putting it mildly. However, remember many JV's also have these things called jobs and at least one of the DAK girls also has a baby that is only a few weeks old...so their response time might not be as fast as some of us students who live on our email all day these days.

Whats UPS say about the package...did you check the tracking info? As a person who worked in a warehouse in high school and shipped hundreds of packages a day, stuff gets lost more than you probably realize. You can call and ask for your access to the admitted students website. I wouldnt worry about that earlier issue, if there was something wrong with your decision you would have gotten a call long ago...a day or two after you got your decision.

Also welcome to the site, are you coming to DAK?
