Does anyone know how to access Kellogg email? Its just firstinitial, lastname [email protected] right? I tried to use the pw I made for the site but I can't get it to work. I hope they don't take back my admit bc I can't figure out the email system.......

BTW there is a NYC reception in January for admitted students as well

Thanks for the schedule cpgmba, +1.

Steel,

Are there sufficient things for JVs to do during DAK to make the trip worthwhile for them. I really want to bring my wife, but I don't want her just wandering around Evanston alone while I am busy with DAK.

Thanks

The JV club definitely puts on events. Talk to riverripper about specifics with respects to bringing wives and JVs. He brought his and it sold her on Kellogg. Some say the JVs have more fun :)

The email address should be the format you describe, unless there are more than one admit with the same first initial/last name. In which case I think it becomes firstname lastname [email protected]. You should be able to access the webmail system using the username and pw for the welcome site. It took a couple days for me to be able to access webmail, even after I had access to the admitted students site.

Where did you get info about the NYC admitted student reception?

Does anyone (e.g. Steel) know if there will be a discount rate at local hotels? I seem to remember reading in last year's thread that this was the case.

By the way, admit package contains the following:
- Kellogg padded neoprene laptop sleeve
- Kellogg wireless mouse
- Tuition deposit form
- Congratulations letter from Beth Flye (notes that DAK is 2/6-2/8, and that deposit is required by 4/1)
- Letter promoting the welcome-site for admitted students
- Letter from KIS (Kellogg IS) providing username, activation code, email address, student ID

Congrats to all, and here's to peer-pressuring each other into forgetting about any programs other than Kellogg!

Good question familyman! Our logistics people are still trying to work out the specifics with hotels - still unsure about how this is going to play out.

Wireless mouse and laptop sleeve, much better than the portfolio we got last year! Though I am still using my portfolio for recruiting events hehe.

Anyone happen to notice the temperature in Chicago today? Holy moly!! And I thought is was cold in DC today.

For those in the continental US that recieved the welcome packet, did it come via USPS, or was it FedEx/UPS. I don't trust my apartment building to get me packages.

Thanks.

Mine came UPS, but no email from UPS beforehand like others have gotten. For what it's worth, I got the call on 12/4 and just got the package today, but I don't know if that length of delay will stay the same or if it's just because I got the call relatively early.

There's actually an agenda for JV's as well. JVs can attend some of the events in the above. (I believe it's the ones with the *) My wife is definitely coming. This is a big decision for us and I want to make sure she feels included and gets involved as well.

cpgmba,

Great question! The Joint Ventures group has a separate agenda planned for DAK. Please have your wife visit the JV website: https://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/student/club/joint/index.html The site's homepage has links to the JV LinkedIn group and the DAK Facebook group. The JV DAK daily schedule hasn't been posted yet but it should be up in the new year. The Facebook and LinkedIn groups are great ways to keep in touch with 2011 JVs and current JVs.

Thanks Mrs. River, kudos. The wife is checking out the JV website as we speak. We are both looking forward to our trip to Evanston in February.

Yeah whats up with that. You would think the budget would be going down not up this year.

Last year hotels (Orrington, the Hilton, and another chain I forget) had DAK deals. Orrington and the Hilton are the closest but they also were like $30 more a night last year. People also post to share rooms and cabs on the message board. A cab from Midway is like $60 and a cab from O'hare is like $45 or $50 (including tip)...using a local cab company. So it makes sense to try to split one of those too. Chances are someone will be arriving at a similar time so post on the admitted students messageboard. There is a bus that goes from O'hare that will only cost you $1.75 but will take twice as long to get there and it only runs like every 30 minutes so if you miss it you might be sitting there waiting for the next one.

There are DAK discounts at the Orrington, Hilton Garden Inn, and Best Western. For example, the Orrington was $119 a night compared to $165 (with AAA discount).

So I saw that someone posted a new thread titled Mac vs. PC. I know that Kellogg has a prefered laptop and they provide IT support. I personally plan on going that route.

I have another question though. I am probably one of the few holdouts without an iPhone, Blackberry etc and am considering finally getting one. Are there any "prefered" smart-phones for Kellogg. Do even really need one?

I think I remember seeing on the welcome site that both Blackberries and iPhones can interface with Kellogg's email servers, but there's a slight difference (iPhones interact directly while Blackberries interact via a Blackberry server). So iPhone vs. Blackberry is probably a personal preference. I've always used a Blackberry (my company doesn't support iPhones) but will probably buy an iPhone before school. There's also a list of which carriers are supported by the cell antenna inside the Jacobs Center, but I think it's all the major ones. I'll see if I can find the link to that page and put here.

During my tour back in October, the 2nd year student highly recommended buying the school-sponsored laptop (lenovo), as it will be supported by KIS. He mentioned that one of his friends dropped his laptop and totalled it, but KIS pulled all his files off the hard drive and gave him a "loaner".

Looks like I'll once again renege on my threats of buying a Mac next time.

I love my iPhone - it is extremely useful in the massive scheduling nightmare that is business school. I use it everyday to keep myself honest with respect to scheduled meetings, recruiting events, etc. Also, when you have 5-10 minutes to get from one place to another, it is useful to have your iPhone around to check what room you need to be in, rather then booting up your computer and checking your schedule that way.
