Hi mgr5,

Regarding quant materials, I agree with mangamma that TTP could be a game changer for you. The course has worked well for many students in your shoes and provides all you need to score Q49+. In fact, check out this recent debrief from a past TTP student who scored 760 on his GMAT.

If you have further questions about TTP or your study plan, feel free to reach out to me directly. Good luck!

Hi Experts

I wrote GMAT on July 4th, 2019 and was pretty disappointed with an abysmal 680 score after five months of preparation(studied for more than 8 hrs everyday in the last 20 days of the exam). I am planning to write it again and need advice on the study materials to be used. (PLEASE PLEASE ADVISE - aiming at least 720 this time)

Study Materials used for preparation:
Verbal - OG, Aristotle SC Grail, Manhattan SC, Powerscore CR bible, Manhattan CR, Manhattan RC, Random gmatclub questions sorted by most expert answers/views
Quant - OG, Manhattan chapter wise books, Manhattan Advanced Quant

Few Questions:
1. I have read good reviews about "Thursdays With Ron videos" but each video is of 1hr duration. Is it advisable to go through the videos at this stage?
2. Since I have already exhausted OG questions, Manhattan questions, which study material should I use now?
3. Which mocks should I take now, if any? GmatClub? Additional GmatPrep? Any Other?

PS: I want to apply to ISB and IIMs in Round1 as there are more chances of getting scholarships in R1 but I also don't wish to sabotage a good GMAT score just for the sake of applying sooner. So please advise whether I should reappear for GMAT in the first week of August - still 1 month to go for that(deadlines for R1 are dated August end) or write the exam in mid Sept (and apply in R2)?
BTW, I have hardly got a 700+ score in mocks till now. I had already done GMATPrep2 Verbal CR questions so GMATPrep2 score is not a correct indicator of my actual performance.

GMAT test day experience:
I faced a lot of hiccups on the test day, such hiccups that gave me a severe headache even before the exam started. Anyway I started with Quant section and rushed through the first 20 questions only to realize later that I might have marked few questions incorrect because of all the hurry. At that moment, I knew Q50/51 had become a dream.
When I started Verbal, I already had a severe headache. Given all the rushing in Quant, I started Verbal at ease. The 2nd RC was so long and weird that I spent a lot of time trying to understand it. Due to this, I faced a time crunch in Verbal and literally marked the last 6-7 questions within seconds without even a good look at the options.

Hi mgr5,

Welcome to GMATCLUB! To improve your scores in verbal , you can consider e-gmat verbal online or the e-gmat verbal live course. They are both amazing courses especially designed for non-natives. They offer almost 25% of their courses for free so you can try out their free trial to decide which one you want to go for. Plus the e-gmat Scholaranium which is included in both the courses is one of the best verbal practice tools in the market. You can easily track your progress in that you can identify your strengths and analyze and improve on your weak areas.

Further taking multiple mocks might help. Apart from the GMATPREP, Manhattan GMAT tests and Veritas Prep Tests in my experience have good verbal and Quant section and will certainly help you point out and improve your weak areas.

I would also encourage you to purchase the GMATPREP QP 1 for some great additional practice. Further you should also consider LSAT Questions for some great RC practice.

Hope this helps. All the best.

Hi mgr5, given your debrief, better time management alone can bump up your score by at least 20-30 points.

Also, can you share your ESR? That will give us more insight into your performance.

Hi mgr5,

First off, a 680/Q48 is a strong score, so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School - and referring to that Score as "abysmal" makes you sound silly. By extension, a retest might not be necessary. Depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

There's certainly no harm in retesting - and you have the opportunity to pick up points in both the Quant and Verbal sections. That having been said, you scored near the top of your 'range' on Test Day, so we'll have to work to make some fundamental changes to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections before you can score a lot higher.
Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on your timeline and your goals:

1) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
2) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
3) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

You might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
