Hi sairam595,

From your original post, it sounds like you're unhappy about this Official Score, but you haven't provided much information about WHY you're unhappy about it. As such, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long have you studied?
2) What materials have you used?
3) How have you scored on each of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?

4) What is your goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
6) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi sairam595,

To start, what was your Official GMAT Score from back in September? Is that the 570/Q44 in your profile?

When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. If you can answer a few questions, then we should be able to figure this out:

When you took your CATs:
1) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)?
2) Did you take them at home?
3) Did you take them at the same time of day as your Official GMAT?
4) Did you ever do ANYTHING during your CATs that you couldn't do on Test Day (pause the CAT, skip sections, take longer breaks, etc.)?
5) Did you ever take a CAT more than once? Had you seen any of the questions BEFORE?

Hi sairam595,

From your prior post, there was one potential 'red flag', but before we come back to that, I have a few additional questions about the lead-up to Test Day and Test Day itself:

1) What did you do in the 3 days before your GMAT?
2) How did you sleep the night before your Test?
3) How long was the ride to the Test Center from your home?
4) Were there any distractions at the facility or during the Test?
5) What did you do during the two 8-minute breaks?
6) Did you finish any sections early?
7) Did you have to rush to finish any sections (and guess on questions just to finish on time)?

Hi EMPOWERgmatRichC,

Please find my responses below:

1) What did you do in the 3 days before your GMAT? I just did revision for few hours each day. But i am in very much relax state.
2) How did you sleep the night before your Test? I slept for 8 hours.
3) How long was the ride to the Test Center from your home? It was 1 hour
4) Were there any distractions at the facility or during the Test? No distractions
5) What did you do during the two 8-minute breaks? I just washed my face with cold water & had snickers. (I have done the same during mocks)
6) Did you finish any sections early? No
7) Did you have to rush to finish any sections (and guess on questions just to finish on time)?
Yes. one long RC killed my time in the middle of verbal section and when am at 31st question only 7 min left.
So 31-41 qstns section might got disaster.

Hi sairam595,

Using this recent GMAT score as reference, the bulk of the missing points that you're looking for are going to be found in the Verbal section, so you're likely going to need to invest in some new study materials and learn/practice some new Tactics. In addition, there's a significant aspect of Test Day that you did NOT factor into your practice CATs. When you took your CATs at home, you just sat down and began the Test. However, on Test Day, you had 1 hour of travel, plus however long you had to wait before you were let into the Computer Lab. That could have been upwards of an extra 1.5 hours of activity/anxiety/etc. that you had to work through BEFORE you even began your Test. During practice, you began the Verbal section after about 3 hours of working on other things, but on Test Day, you didn't begin the Verbal section until after 4.5 hours of working on other things. As such, your CAT scores were a bit 'inflated' and you had not built up enough 'endurance' during your training to properly prepare for Test Day.

Thankfully, these are relatively easy problems to 'fix', but it will take some time to build up the necessary skills and hone your Verbal Tactics (so that you can properly use them, even when you're a little tired).

1) Did you purchase the ESR?

Hi Sairam! Few things are very clear from your ESR:

i) Verbal is your primary area of concern

ii) Within Verbal, SC is the specific pain area. Not only is your percentile in SC the lowest (at 17%), you spent more time on SC than you should ideally have, possibly impacting your accuracy in other areas in Verbal.

Also, thought I would mention that our sentence correction book Sentence Correction Nirvana is perhaps the only book that offers a score improvement guarantee, and is especially designed for non-native speakers.

After reading the book twice (yes! it's an academic book, and so must be read twice in all seriousness, to reinforce the concepts), you will start looking forward to solving SC questions!

The book is available on Flipkart and Amazon.in. You might want to refer to these sites, to also read testimonials of how readers have benefited.

See here how Mohit, who scored 750 on GMAT, vouches for our book.

If you want to sample a chapter before deciding to go ahead with our book, please PM me your mail-id (along with the chapter that you would like to sample) and I will be happy to send that chapter to you by mail. In addition, the entire Grammar section of the book is also available for free preview at pothi.
