Al gets the disease algebritis and must take one green pill and one pink pill each day for two weeks. A green pill costs $1 more than a pink pill, and Al's pills cost a total of $546 for the two weeks. How much does one green pill cost?

(A) $7
(B) $14
(C) $19
(D) $20
(E) $39

must take one green pill and one pink pill each day for two weeks

i.e. Green pills needed = 2*7 = 14
i.e. Pink pills needed = 2*7 = 14

G = 1+P

Total Cost = 14G + 14P = 14(1+P) + 14P = 14+28P = 546 Given

i.e. P = 19
i.e. G = 1+19 = 20

Answer: Option D

cost of pink pill=x
cost of gp = 1+x
so total 14 days expense
14*(2x+1)= 546
x=19; pink pill
green pill = 20

We can let the cost of the pink pill = p and the cost of the green pill = p + 1 and create the equation for the cost:

14p + 14(p + 1) = 546

14p + 14p + 14 = 546

28p = 532

p = 19

The green pill costs 20 dollars.

Answer: D
