Question for everyone:

are all diagnostics from the commercially-oriented providers meant to be harsh on scoring in order to goad you into purchasing their prep services?

I never really noticed that. Sometimes they are really off and we even have a gmat score Estimator/calculator. Gmat prep is best in establishing your level.

I'll definitely be using a lot more. I just got the jitters because I tested consistently on GMATPrep (statistically encouraging) and then TANKED on test day.

Hi Guys,
can anyone comment on number 17 in the above list Platinum GMAT. I just took their test with any prior studying and scored a 650-660. The test does not seem to be adaptive, yet includes many questions they rank as 650-800level questions. What are your thoughts on how well this test mimics the 'real' one?

One real valuable thread!
Although I'm sure most blokes wait to gain the mojo by aiming on 2-3 in the long list

Kudos!

glad to have seen someone else get a lower score with Knewton. Their test seemed alternatively way too easy and not adaptive.

Their trial class format however is awesome in my opinion--particularly compared to the other I just did which was Princeton Review (such a bad interface with no control, I just quit halfway through). Suspect I'll pay for Knewton though I had planned to just self-study.

Keep an eye out for discounts on Knewton - they just had one that ended on 12/31 ($100 off). This is the end of GMAT season, so I suspect they'll have another one in a few weeks.

thanks. not sure it's worth the wait. on another note, just finished 4tests.com's practice gmat. what a waste. clearly not adaptive, far too easy. got 51 out of 52 correct, and I ain't that good yet.

oh wait--in an hour gmatclub's tests are free. I'll wait at least till sunday to buy knewton :)

Hi!
I've done the first Gmat prep test and i've scored 740. Then i've tried 2 manhattan gmat tests and scored 680 and 690. Is it possible that manhattan gmat tests are thougher or simply i was lucky on gmat prep test?
Anyway tomorrow i'm gonna take the second gmat prep and on friday i've the real gmat. Hope to score high but i'm a bit worried after manhattan gmat tests!!

I'm going to slander a little: if these companies make their "free test" easier, then you do extremely well and are less likely to buy their classes. I think they all make the decision to make their 1st test a little harder. Particularly where they have a money back guarantee--it works well for them to have your 1st base test be really tough. This is not backed up--just my personal theory.

I will rather say..write all these tests and take them as practice test. Do not worry about the scores. Just analyze the questions after the test

As an international student (native spanish speaker), in my experience, I think that the good crescent path and wise use of the tests might be (after the first "know your level one"):

1st) 800score
2nd) PowerPrep
3rd) GMATPrep
4th) Kaplan
then) Manhattan (online)

Manhattan (online) -- what you mean by manhattan online. I found only 25X3 verbal question bank and online tests. Is there any big unlimited online verbal question book? I think I should practice a lot to improve(because I am bit weak in verbal and I can get 49 in math even when I am drunk).

Amazing place. I just started looking to taking GMAT, and found this place to be as informative/useful as anyone of them out there. Thanks so much.
