A. one's family history
B. the history of their family
C. their family's history
D. one's history of one's family
E. his family history

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

Although most people would agree that one should remember one's family history, the part this history plays in different people's lives varies.

A. one's family history

The pronoun one agrees with itself only.

B. the history of their family

Incorrect.

This answer choice is grammatically incorrect: the pronoun their refers to one but does not agree with it as one is singular and their is plural.

The pronoun one agrees with itself only.

C. their family's history

Incorrect.

This answer choice is grammatically incorrect: the pronoun their refers to one but does not agree with it as one is singular and their is plural.

The pronoun one agrees with itself only.

D. one's history of one's family

Incorrect.

This answer choice is stylistically flawed. Replacing the phrase one's family history with one's history of one's family creates redundancy as it is less concise.

E. his family history

Incorrect.

This answer choice is grammatically incorrect. The pronoun his can refer to a singular human male noun, but there's no such noun in the sentence.

The pronoun one agrees with itself only.

What helps us identify this question as a Pronoun question as well as identify the mistake is the following Stop Sign: Every pronoun in the underlined part of the sentence or after it
