Hey guys,
I am preparing for this year's application season and trying to pick over a couple of schools to apply in the first round. Being an international applicant, I find it quite complicated to figure out with which business school communities I have a cultural fit. For this reason I created a short survey with a few psychometric questions:

Hi,
I would be more than happy to respond to your survey. However, if you don't mind I would like to point out a few things.
First, your psychometric test may paint me as a person type A. But it might not be that, only person type A get into a particular school. If all students belonged to a same personality type, b school would be boring wouldn't it? Also, I am sure every person at a particular school will respond differently to your particular type of questions. So you might be a perfect match to my personality type, but a complete misfit for Anderson ( I am an Anderson admit).
Second, you would have to ask a million questions to determine cultural fit for every school as each school has different priorities (that's what the essay questions are for). For example, Anderson fit questions are : Do you like to be collaborative rather than competitive? Do you give priority to be a good leader than to being a good team player? Do you prioritize group success rather than personal success? (you get the drift what Andersons all about...
) These dont figure in your survey. And I am sure you have missed many questions relevant to your target schools.
Third, you must be clear what your values are first of all. They can be identified by your life stories. And believe me, those stories are what will tell the school if you 'fit ' their culture.
Fourth, some people get admitted to multiple schools. That's because their personalities are so vibrant, they fit many schools. The other way to look at it is, they know what to show and what to withhold to portray a certain fit ( I am getting a bit real here
).
If you have cared to read till this then here's some advice that might benefit you:
Step 1: Get to know the culture of the school you 'want' to go to. Its on their website. Dead center. Talk to current students too, to get the 'same' info.
Step 2: Search in your stories the values that correspond and shortlist the stories.
Step 3: Tell those stories.
Step 4: Get admit ( )
There, I spent more than a minute for this response. Hope this will help you more!

I agree with you that extending survey with more questions would increase accuracy. But a trade-off here is that longer survey would require more time to complete, and so fewer people would want to spend time on it.
Anyway, the result of the survey is just one thing to consider and it will not substitute for visiting the school or talking to current students in person. I will post the results here once a bit more responses are collected.
