Great to see everyone!

I've already taken the GMAT, so that's one worry out of the way. Currently busy with school research. I don't want to apply to too many and do a half-baked job with all of them, so I'm thinking maybe 5 (or possibly 6) apps over R1 and R2 would be doable, what do you think?

And how are you guys going about your school research? Any tips on how to get the inside scoop on the schools?

I am also looking at 5 to 6, I had thought of doing 8, but then ppl were really shocked by that... I guess for a reason, although people that apply to med school do like 15, so I was using that as a reference. All R1 if possible too, haha!

This is the perfect time to research schools. Get ahead of the curve especially if you want to do Rd 1 apps. Try to knock the GMAT out before summer so you can focus on perfecting those essays.

The BEST way, I found, to do research on schools is to reach out to student club leaders. Most of their contact info is on the respective club's website and most are willing to chat with you and give you their perspective. It's getting a little late, but try to do some school visits as well. I know I was considering applying to some schools, but visiting the campus and seeing the city saved me a lot of money.

I am in for Fall 2012. Already started the Fall 2012 Columbia thread and I believe someone else started the Wharton thread for 2012 as well.

I am an early career applicant (3 years at matriculation) so have a challenging cycle ahead. Taking GMAT on 17th August, trying to improvise on the 690 I got 3 years ago. Target schools:

1. Columbia
2. MIT
3. Tuck
4. LBS

(In that order)

I am a re-applicant and shooting for R1 this year. Yes, I agree with the comment above, this is the best time to research the schools and read up on the specifics. Also great time to build the stories of Why MBA? Why Now? Why X school? and Long and short term goals. These essay concepts are quite common across the diaspora of schools.

Greetings all,

I'm applying this year as well, planning to app 3-6 schools in R1, and then possibly 1-2 schools in R2.

Count me in, too!

I've already taken the GMAT and will be applying in R2 for part-time programs (UCLA, USC, and Pepperdine).

Good luck to everyone! :-D

I'm applying this year to about 6 top schools in R1, and a couple of second tier for R2.

Took the GMAT and got a 760.

Really excited, you guys! HBS 2012 essays are out, btw. So I'm already writing!

Good luck to everyone.

Hi Everyone,

Im also a Fall 2012 applicant, i am still pre GMAT, and am studying every day for it around 1-2 hrs everyday. Still have a long way to go and have scheduled end july/beginning august as the time to give the GMAT. Im not using the traditional approach of only covering my weaknesses, and am working on everything end to end and am doing the entire set of MGMAT Strategy books 1-8, so far done 4 with regular questions from the OG 12th edition.

So far the schools i have decided are the following

Round 1:
USC (Marshall)
Rice( Jones)
Emory

Round 2:
Cornell (Johnson)
Yale SOM
LBS

Round 3:
UVA (Darden)
UNC Chapel Hill (Kenan-Flagler)
Insead

Up for discussion- NYU/Columbia/Oxford/Cambridge/Darthmouth

Do feel free to put in your two bit i.e. worth it/ not really/ how it would contribute to me, how i would contribute to it etc.

My stats are
UG Liberal Arts School ( major in Business/Political Science)- CG 2.7
Current 4.5 years of retail and corporate banking experience for an international bank ( Cross geographies- currently working in Dubai, UAE)
International Student
Decent Extra Curriculars- Pol Sci Club, Foreign Affairs correspondent College Newspapre, Int Club, Work Study, Fraternity, Tutor, RA

Feel free to ask me more questions, currently im brainstorming for the essays, are last years essays a good indicator of wha should be expected this year ?

Yes, I'll be doing 4 schools this year.

GMAT out of the way & all 4 schools visited as of yesterday.

Gonna hit the ground running as soon as the essays come out. Hopefully R1 for all 4:
